I HAVE to kick my pop habit

I have got to stop myself from drinking pop.  My hubs loves Pepsi and sometimes I take a sip here, a sip there.  Then I'll have a few ounces...until now I drink about 4-6 ounces of regular pop about 2-3 times per week.  Anyone else struggle with this impulse/craving?  I feel like this will contribute to be not losing my last 15-20 pounds.

I guess the bad news is that you have no adverse effects to the soda sipping right?  Other than your fear of weight loss slowing.

I dump but not when I sip 4 ounces over a 1-2 hour timeframe.  I need to stop cold turkey.  I'm out of hand.

If it helps.... When I was in the hospital (I had some post op complications) I told the nurse I just had gastric bypass surgery and she told me she had it as well a few years ago and lost a ton of weight (I can't remember how much) but then she started drinking pop again and gained it all back!  She told me that now she was having problems again with her knees, etc....  So she stressed not falling back into that trap.  I'm not sure that's helpful but it did give me pause to think, man I wouldn't want to go through all this to just gain it all back for a dumb drink!  Maybe you could encourage your husband to quit the pop thing too.  That would make it easier for you.

I developed an ulcer. Not from the tiny amount of diet soda I was drinking. But going through that made me kick soda cold turkey.

start with fizzy falvored water, (or regular seltzer and add those flavored liquid drops), then to just regular flavor water (no fizz) and stick to that (well a low calorie/carb one) and then throw in some regular water :)

take it one step at a time

This is the best advice! I agree. Kick the habit slowly. This is exactly how I did it. I did fizzy water first with flavor. I now drink teas and water with a little flavor or lime or something. One step at a time. Love it.

I think soda is a big trigger for me and I avoid it like the plague.  I've had a sip or two of my hubby's diet soda and it still tastes nasty.  Not to mention the adverse affects of the artificial sweetener.  I'd like to do the flavored fizzy waters like LaCroix but I'm too nervous so I stick to water or tea.  There are times when I swear the Coke can is calling my name.

I agree it is a big trigger for a lot of people. From personal observation, my weight loss surgery friends in real life who drink a lot of soda are the ones who never got to goal or have had serious regain. I also avoid it like the plague.

I was a huge soda addict.  It was not fun giving it up, but I did over two years ago and it doesn't even taste good to me anymore so I'm not tempted.   It is truly horrible for you.  Its a can of sugar (or fake sugar) and chemicals....chemicals that eat away paint and rust, tenderize meat (what will it do to your stomach?), and they are finding a good deal of other correlations between illness and soda consumption.   The more I've learned, the easier it was for me to just stay away from it.
