I started my preopliquid diet today- thinking the protein drinks would be fine... I WAS SO WRONG. I bought the ISOPURE ready to drink and the ISOPURE powder... I had the strawberry powder mix this morning for breakfast and then have been trying to drink one of the ISOPURE ready drinks for lunch and cannot seem to down it. I've ready posts in the past on this site talking about how horrible the protein drinks are- and I just always had the mind set that ya gotta do what ya gotta do.. but this is now making me nervous wondering what have I got myself into- but backing out is so NOT an option- I feel completely silly for the way I am feeling..Any advice would be fantastic.. Protein drinks...
My surgery is Monday, April 29 btw

I am 23 months out and I recently tried Atkins protein drinks and they are pretty good. Another is EAS Protein drinks.

It will be okay. Everyone has different taste and you will find the one that's right for you!

Best regards.

try different ones... I was on optifast 900 which was all I was allowed as per surgeons intsructions. I hated every minute of it and it lasted a whole lot of minutes... three weeks worth!

I put my shake in a bottle... shake shake... added ice... shake shake... put a straw through the tiny opening and chugged like a teenager at a frat party... it would take me less than 2 min to get that sucker down and put a piece of gum in my mouth. 4 times a day for 21 days.

I was never really hungry but I mourned food the whole time and was pissed off at the world... but you know what??? I did it! and now I'm 3 months post op and have lost 53 pounds since that liquid diet and a grand total of 67 since last Sept.

I struggle a lot with protein drinks. The only one I am having any luck with is premier protein ready to drink shakes. Muscle milk lite isnt too bad either.

Are you allowed to add fruit or something and blend it? I wasnt for my pre op diet, but some people are.

It is a REALLY tough spot you are in, I am not going to lie to you. But get encouragement from everyone on here, watch youtube success videos, look at before and after pictures....they will help push you through this awful stage.

I am 13 weeks post op, am down 65 pounds and over 10 BMI points, and can eat like any other sensible person. It does get better and it will be worth it. I promise!

I really like the BA mint chocolate, cappuccino and French vanilla. My doctors office gave me samples of all sorts of flavors of the BA and fusion. I preferred the BA, not as thick.

I've heard several say they couldn't stomach the isopure and that it tastes like vomit, I've never tried it so I wouldn't personally know.

Each brand tastes different, some flavors are better than others. I can do just about any chocolate but don't care for strawberry in any one I've tried. I like Celebrate's vanilla cake batter and use that and Celebrate ens chocolate daily but not mixed per their instructions. I need 12 oz of water instead of 8. The texture and taste are too strong with 8 oz of water for me so I just added more until I found how I liked it.

All great suggestions already.  I have used Atkins, Medifast, Optifast and EAS protein drinks.  Found that if I use a blender and lots of ice it seems to help.  Even with the ready to drink, lots of ice and blend into milkshake consistency.  No experience with the Isopure brand.

Much luck to you, hope you find something that well work.  Vanilla or chocolate were also easier for me than strawberry.  With the vanilla, I could add flavors.  I haven't had surgery yet, so have no idea how toleration will be after that.  I hear the Unjury and BA brands are pretty good.

I used the Isopure ready to drink ones.  I diluted it with a similar flavor Poweraid Zero... and was able to get the whole bottle in over the course of the day.  I just did little bits at a time.  Haven't tried it post-op yet.... just had surgery 4/19.  Also tried GNC Lean Shake 25 mixed with skim milk and lots of ice.  Made a HUGE shake hubby and I could share. My favorite flavor was Chocolate Peanut Butter. :-)

Loved the BA hot chocolate mixes too... they taste like "real" hot chocolate, not like a protein drink.

Just keep trying.. you'll find what works for you!
