Oh No weight gain

It is extremely rare not to gain back twenty pounds after the honeymoon period ends. Many people gain all or most of their lost weight back. It is how the body works.

My surgeon kept saying it would happen and I did not believe him.

I lost my regain very slowly. The first thing my nutritionist said to get rid of was protein shakes. I took the scale back out and weigh every day. My weight came off one pound a week eating 800 - 900 calories a day . My labs and energy stayed great.

I keep the weight off by weighing every day. If I stopped doing that I would regain.

I'm curious why they said to stop the protein shakes?

They just run through the pouch and do not keep you full like solid protein. Just cutting them out was enough for me to start losing a pound a week.

My bariatric clinic and the dieticians who work with them do not recommend protein shakes at all.  One of the dieticians told me that protein shakes were considered "snacks" and that they were strongly discouraged.  At the last bariatric support group meeting I attended, the subject came up and the lead nurse said that after we've been out for awhile, we should be getting the majority of our protein from solids (meat, eggs...) and not liquids.  I realize that some bariatric clinics may differ in their opinions about this.  I sometimes make a protein "smoothy" with powder, skim milk and fruit, but only as a meal replacement, never in between meals.  And it does not stay with me the way meat does.  I'm not saying that bariatric patients should not use protein shakes.  I'm just reporting what my clinic recommends.
