I am having a hard time getting all my liquids in.  its a struggle some days to even finish a 16.9 fl oz bottle of propel water. I have mentioned it to my doctor and he isnt worried. He just keeps telling me to sip sip sip all day.... Thats the problem.... I sip sip sip and sometimes take bigger sips all day long but its a struggle. Over the past week I have had to call my doctor for signs of dehydration like not urinating enough, dry lips/mouth and he isnt worried.... UNLESS I am dizzy or light-headed or feel like I am about to faint. Again he tells me to sip sip sip.....Its like he isnt understanding me, I am sipping all day long and I am not getting anywhere.  I was reading signs of dehydration and dry lips/mouth and lack of urinating are signs of dehyrdation but he doesnt wanna hear/listen to me....... What do you think?

I had a really hard time getting mine in the first 2-3 weeks after surgery (and now again that I am back at work but that's a different issue).  In the beginning I had to find other liquids because I just didn't like water and it actually kind of hurt going down (and prior to surgery I easily drank 5-8 16.9 oz bottles of plain water a day). So, I had to find other ways to get my liquids. SF popsicles (yes, that is liquid!), crystal light, chicken broth...and I had little 2 tablespoon (30mL) plastic cups (like what come with cough syrup). I filled one with water and made sure I drank it in 30 minutes. In the beginning having a huge bottle of water and knowing I had to drink it all "before noon" or whatever was daunting. For me, the smaller cups worked. I could easily sip 4-5 sips out of that little cup in no time...and before I knew it I had drank 30-40 little cups a day.  You definitely do not want to get dehydrated! Try other liquids and see if you can sip more of those. Good luck!

This sounds silly, but I struggled when drinking from a bottle. I just poured the water into a glass and have not had a problem since.

I have a 52 oz insulated mug.  I fill it every morning with lots of ice and water.  I take another insulated 2 cup mug, fill that mug up with ice and water,  and just sip from the smaller mug all day long..  I fill it up the smaller mug as it gets low, with the other, fresh , cold water mug.  I know once I finigh both, I have had the amt. required for each day.  It helps having the fresh mug right here with me all day.  Make sure the mugs have handles and an opening to drink from to make it all easier.

I couldn't do the "sip, sip, sip" thing. Once I decided to try taking a real drink I did SO much better. I now get some in my mouth (about 2 swallows) and drink it. I actually exceed my minimum every day now.

The doctor's seem aloof I'm sure because they hear it all the time every day from their patients. It isn't a "big deal" to them because they go through it over and over again, we only have the surgery once and we tend to worry more about things if that makes sense.

While it may be a struggle to get fluids in it isn't an option, or you'll end up back in the hospital. You have to put on your big girl panties and find a way to get it in some how some way. If propel doesn't go down well try water, try it in different temperatures, drink broth, eat sf jello or sf popsicles, try some peppermint tea, drink some protein shakes. All those count as fluid and will keep you hydrated.

I agree with some of the other posters try a cup instead of a bottle or try a straw some here said as soon as they used a straw they didn't have a problem. You can do this! You have to do this!

If you think you are dehydrated, I would go to the ER.  You need IV fluids if you are dehydrated.

Otherwise, you need to sip more.  Or take bigger drinks.  Or whatever.  If you take a drink every five minutes, you should get more than 16.9 oz in over the course of the day.  Set an alarm to go off every five minutes if you have to.

Hey, I just came back from my first pre-op appointment and I am dehydrated.   My heart beat was a 103... So I got in trouble.,..  He said I had to do it or I was going to end up in the ER..   He said if you get nauseated then I wouldn't want to drink so its best to get it in now... So I have been trying really hard today and I am doing better but still not there yet ...   he said sip every 5 mins... I think this is the worst part of the whole thing.

I had a hard time getting all my fluids in after surgery, but the consequences of dehhdration was a strong motivator. Sometimes I was up very late at night making sure I got those last 8 oz down. Try different things, that might go down easier like protein shakes, warm tea , cold tea, broth, sf jello and et****il you find something that works. In the end, I finally resorted to using a straw, and haven't had a problem since. In fact I drink so much now, that I read this post after logging in after a late night wake up potty run.

FYI though, if you ever get to a point where you can not physically get fluids down you might have a stricture, and that would be a real reason to get with you doctor right away .

In the absence of a stricture, you gotta suck it up (pun intended) and care
enough about youself to do the work required to suceed.
