Anyone else getting tired of their soft foods diet?
I am seriously getting tired of eating scrambled eggs (no milk) mashed potatoes (no butter or milk) rice (no butter) plain oatmeal just tastes very nasty. My doctor hasnt allowed me to try any meats or cheeses or milk he doesnt even want me drinking any of my isopure either.... so i am not really getting any protien. Oh get ahold of this, he doesn't even want me having mayo, light or fat free either..... i am seriously getting fed up with this diet. i dont have my next check up until may 21. i can not sit here for the next 4 weeks eating mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs or rice...... i am about to go stir crazy...... I have started to isolate myself in my bedroom when the rest of my family eats because the sight and looks of it makes me go insane for it and makes me grumpy. I met someone who had surgery the day after me (I had mine 4/8 she had hers 4/9) And she is eating normal foods that her doctor told her she can have...... GRRRRRRR

Why does your doctor want you to eat so much carbs and so little protein? I'd be very concerned about that. Are you working with a registered dietician? If so, you might want to consult them. If not, you might want to make an appointment with one.
If you are on soft foods, you should be able to eat cheese, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, thin sliced deli meats, tuna salad, beans, tofu, veggie burgers, chili, cooked veggies, tender meats, fish, all sorts of things. I've never heard of a doctor advising a patient to eat potatoes, rice and eggs for a month.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
thank you, someone who finally understands, sadly my doctors office has a nutritionist and hes the one who put me on it.... i am starting to become worried myself. someone has even mentioned if i have fainted yet because of this, not yet, thank god, but im scared it will happen... i have 4 weeks until my next appointment.......
You don't have to see the nutritionist in your surgeon's office. You can find a registered dietician to work with instead. Nutritionists vary widely in their education and training. They do not have to have a college degree in nutrition (or in anything at all) and are not licensed or regulated in any way. Registered dieticians, on the other hand, must have a degree in nutrition and must pass a licensing exam. They are regulated by the state. I would find a registered dietician with experience with RNY patients.
The bottom line is that it's up to you. You are the one that will have to live with the consequences of the choices you make, not the nutritionist that thinks rice and potatoes are good choices but protein is not.

That just doesn't sound right. What Dr. prescribes rice and potatoes but doesn't want you consuming protein after RNY. I'm 8 months out and I'm still not supposed to eat rice.
Are we getting the whole story here? They are the only three things on his list or the only three things you will eat on his list? You won't get sick or die from little protein for a few weeks. You chose your surgeon and at this point you should follow his plan.
I never drank a protein drink/shake or eat a protein bar and I am perfectly healthy ...

He told me I can progress to scrambled eggs without milk. I can progress to rice without butter. I can progress to plain oatmeal. No flavor. I can have mashed potatoes, without milk or butter/ (Sorry reading the food list he gave me) That's all... The note says. if these foods do not agree with you go back to the liquid diet for the rest of the day and try again tomorrow.
I think Mrs Litch had a no dairy diet to begin with - maybe she'll chime in with suggestions as to what she ate on the soft diet. So the diet sheet just says: scrambled egg, potato and oatmeal for the next 4 weeks? It is boring for sure and little useful nutrition ...
I'll be honest, I would struggle to eat scrambled egg that didn't have milk in it - you are doing well if you are tolerating that!!
