Very very severe constipation what can I do?

I'm seven years post-op and I have to take stool softeners daily to make it easy to go. I was experiencing the same symptoms.  When I went to the bathroom, it felt like I had a paper cut in my bum.  The pain was was horrible.  If I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I would be up for the rest of the evening as the pain was so horrible it interrupted my sleep.  The pain would last for hours.  My doctor diagnose it as having an anal fissure which is a tear in the anal lining.  Like the other posts, sitz baths helps as well as using baby wipes to clean yourself.  Also, getting enough fiber and taking the stool softener.  The doctor also prescribe medicine for my bum.   I feel a lot better now, but I guess I will be taking stool softeners for the rest of my life.  Go to your doctor to see what is the problem.

I'm almost nine months out, and still have very bad constipation, but not as bad as yours. I've tried everything, and nothing seems to make a difference. There are times I feel like giving myself a c-section. I wish I could help.

I am almost 9 months out and have the same problem! I get in over 96 oz of water every day, take two stool softners daily, Benefiber daily and 2 fiber tablets daily AND still can't go. I drink Smooth Move every night and go only once, maybe twice a week and not very much when I go. I feel like bawling when I do go b/c it hurts so so bad. I am going to schedule an appt with my gastrointerologist. I'm fed up and something needs done to help me!

Laura, I love your new profile picture. Sorry I couldn't help you any.

I was suffering from the same issue! I work with a GI doctor in the operating room and she suggested for me to take a fiber supplement called Konsyl! It is magic! It work wonders and I will never take anything else! I take 1/2 teaspoon in 4 oz of juice every morning followed by 4 oz of water right away, and then all my fluids during the day, since hydration is the most important thing, and it has kept me regular evef since. Ittook my body about a week to get used to it, but it isso worth it. You can buy it at Walmart or Walgreens, believe you will not regret it. Good luck

Ty everyone i did call my surgeons office and she recommended  urgent care so they could sorta speak clean me out but that won't take care of the pain next time. I am going to continue the miralax daily and really push as much fluids as i possibly can. I was also advised to contact my gastroenterologist so i will be doing that tomorrow. I am still hurting and it stinks! I just want some relief with excrutiating pain to accompany it.

My NUT told me to go off of the calcium pills for a couple of weeks to see if my constipation went away and it helped a lot!  Try skipping your calcium and see if things "improve" .  I feel for you - I know how horrible this is, but it too will pass.

Check with your dietician before you stop your calcium tabs!

Yeah i asked my PA about this i take fusion and 2 of them together i was okayed by the dietician to do this so i am taking double calcium and iron at the same times and 6 hours later doing 2 more fusion together wondering if this is part of the problem. My PA said i need the vitamins and told me pretty much flat out not to stop them.

You have to go to your doctor and get checked. I developed hemmeroids and an anal fissure from the severe constipation.... my doc even talked about surgery. They gave me special medicines for the fissure (helped the pain and it healed up) and things got much better. They also Rx'd me some magnesium and suppositories on the side. It was a rough journey for sure.
