average weight loss (First month)??
Hi, everyone, i had my RNY a month ago, and i have lost 18 pounds. Im 5.1 ft (1.56 mts) and my starting weight the day of the surgery was 223 pounds. Do you think 18 pounds in a month is satisfactory? My doctor wanted me to lose 22 pounds.. but he said that 18 was Ok.
Im scared, i dont want to be a failure and not lose what im supposed to... Im supposed to lose 113 pounds.
I am 5' 2" and was 245 on surgery day - I only lost 10 lbs the first month. But I am nearly 11 months out now and close to the 100 lbs mark (75 since surgery day). It varies for everyone. 18 lbs is great, especially since you started at what many consider a light-weight. Keep up the awesome work!

We are very similar. I am 5 ft 1 and my starting weight dayof surgery was 220! I lost 20 lbs first month so I think you are right on track. I have forgotten how to calculate the percentage but the vets on here will probably let you know. My dietician works strictly off what percentage we have lost and not actual poundage.
Keep to your plan, have faith becuz this is different than anything before and good luck!
I am 5'1 and on the day of surgery 4/08/2013 I was a wopping 282. The first 2 weeks I lost 18 pounds. Then lost another 10 pounds. So I lost 28 pounds the first month. But I couldnt stop throwing up. So I think if I didnt throw up as much as I did I dont think I would have lost 28 pounds in one month. I am now down to 255. I think 18 pounds is a fine amount of weight to lose in a month. Your not going to be a failure. Do as your doctor tells you. And exercise you'll do just fine.
I lost 16 first month.

Your loss the first month depends on a lot of things. If you lost a bunch before surgery your first month will be less.
You are a "light weight" compared to some, so you will lose less. But 18 lbs. for you is a bigger % of your excess weight than it is for someone who weighs 300 lbs.
I think 18 lbs. is great.
Don't compare numbers. % of excess weight is a better comparison. 18 lbs is 16% of your excess weight if you have 113 lbs. to lose. that's great
