Fighting cravings
Ride the tide sista ... YOU CAN DO THIS ... cravings last for only a few seconds or very short minutes .... distract yourself ... do something ... if at work just get up and walk over to the water fountain or take a quick break to the ladies room and put some lip gloss on tell yourself you have sexy lips and refuse to ruin your gloss by eating off hours LOL... if at home keep some clear nail polish handy ... polish your nail and tell yourself you are not going to ruin them by grabbing something to put in your mouth ... if all else fails and you just feel that you MUST go there although I don't recommend it if it is a trigger that would lead you to have more and more just take a teeny nibble off a square of special dark chocolate and hold it in your mouth till it dissolves and the craving passes ...
Every once in a blue moon I like to have an Atkins chunchy chocolate chip crisp bar 10g protein, 1g Sugar, 140 Cals it does have 6g of Sugar Alcohols and while I react to some sorbitol and maltitol I have no problem with these ... I would take a bite of it and a bite of my apple and love the combo ...
Ride the tide....I LOVE it! That's what I'm doing right now. I have a graduate school paper due at midnight and I've been procrastinating/working on it all day and I'm craving chocolate right now. But I'm riding the tide so I can get my water in and wait for my protein ice cream treat later this evening.
It is true: sometimes you just gotta ride it out. There are times when I'm watching the clock and using my willpower to avoid giving in to a craving. It is painful and it is hard work and sometimes it just stinks to ride it out. It is cliche, but true: being fat is harder than riding the tide for an hour or 2!
One of my favorite early post-op chocolate fixes was to mix a package of chocolate vita-muffin mix with some protein powder and make chocolate cupcakes with it: http://neensnotes.com/2008/08/20/the-happiest-cupcake/
