I am 3 days Post Op. I have been trying to up my Protein shakes and fluids along with starting my Vitamins today per Dr orders. I was doing O****il I took 2 sips of Cream of chicken soup. I got the dry heaves and thought I was gonna die. What should I be trying to honestly keep down this soon out? My tunny is making horrible sounds and I am still passing gas.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op, and can't start creamed soups until Sunday.  My first week after surgery I was on water, clear broth, sf popsicles, and my protein shakes.  I had lots of tummy noises, still do.  For the gas I took gas-x (chewables), they helped me instantly.

I agree. Cream of whatever soups seems very heavy. Especially chicken. Ugh chicken murders me!

Have other soups low on sodium. You can buy any canned low sodium soups and drain them so it's all just tasty broth!

SF Popsicles and jello are amazing too.

I did cream of broccoli, that was mainly skim milk with just a little of the actual soup in it. It seemed to sit well on my pouch and it was nice to have something warm. If that doesn't work try getting some unflavored protein powder and add it to your broth, at least you will get some protein in.

My dietician had us use twice the milk/water for the cream soups and to strain them for two weeks.

Also, one thing that really helped me was one of the unflavored protein mixes as suggested by another reader. They mix up in anything!  SF jello, SF pudding, soup, cream of wheat etc.   They are flavorless not tasteless and trust me... there is a difference.  Early on, I could smell food or aromas 2 blocks away, I tell ya!

Good luck.

Plans vary so much. Since you are allowed cream soups you may want to thin them out with water or milk. It may be too heavy for your pouch.

Beware some people become lactose intolerant after surgery. As for the noise common too. My intestines still tal****asionally.

I am supposed to start the cream soups tomorrow. I dont know if its because I ate so much of it before the surgery but the thought of it now kinda turns my tummy. I will however start my protein and v8 tomorrow. And fat free sugar free fudgesicles super excited about those lol. Feel better soon!

I was on a different diet than many posters in that I had a week of clear fluids and then two weeks of full fluids.  During the full fluids stage, cream soups were one of the things I was supposed to eat.  I ate and enjoyed Cream of Chicken Soup (Campbell's) many times.  I made it with skim milk and strained it before eating, though.  So that may be what will work for you.  The straining cleared out a lot of...junk.  Hopefully that will help.

I was still on clear liquids at that point, when I got to full liquids I added shakes for protein and still stuck pretty much to broth and sf jello until pureed stage.

The creamy soups would of scared me between the milk and the fat content. I did find that straining out the broth from chicken noodle or chicken rice soup tasted so much better than plain broth.
