Dumb question

If we can't take NSAIDS because it could cause an ulcer in our remnant stomach (correct?). Why don't they just remove it? It's just hanging around in there
Just curious. Does the left over stomach serve a purpose?

As mentioned, the remnant stomach produces digestive enzymes that your body uses.
Another useful purpose for the remnant stomach is that it's almost a backup pouch if you develop a problem with your "primary" pouch. Instead of having to give you nutrients via IV, the option exists to put a feeding tube into the remnant stomach instead.
