Nuts

Is there any reason why we should not eat nuts? I know that the fat content is high, but aside from nutritional aspects? I was cleared to eat them and then someone told me we were never supposed to eat nuts because of the salt and fat they dont absorb properly or something like that? Im not sure I buy that, but I was just curious if anyone had heard or read anything similar.

i've never heard anything like you mentioned about nuts. i don't see why having them in moderation should be a problem.

It's possible that they may be a bit tricky to digest if you're having them too soon after the surgery. There are definitely some nuts that are less fatty than others, and you can always get nuts that are unsalted as well!

Do you have a dietician? If so, ask them! :)

Not at all.  In fact, nuts and seeds should be a consistent part of your diet.

It just depends in your plan. Some people's plan allows it, others don't. My plan does not, bevause of calories. Do I still eat them? Sure, occasionally I do. Hasn't hurt me yet!

I don't see much of an issue if you need extra calories for the day, why not? And if you're not snacking on them all the time, no biggie! I'm 10 weeks out and not allowed yet. But I can't wait till I am!

I eat nuts every single day, and I am the glowing picture of health.  They might be high in calories but they are healthy so I always make some room for them every day.  And I think nuts are a million times better then the salty alternative, chips or crackers.

If you were cleared for them and they fit in your daily plan...go for it.  I eat nuts probably 5 days a week.  They are a good source of natural protein and fill the salty crunchy need.  I keep a 1/4 measuring cup in my bag and make sure to only give myself the allotted amount because its one of those foods I could eat too much of if I didn't keep strict control on it.

I can't eat nuts Post-OP.  Totally sucks cause I love em.  I get the worst diarrhea if I eat them, and that never happened prior to surgery.  So, I'm thinking it's going to be personal preference and ability.  Good luck!
