TMI maybe
I called my surgon Tuesday evening and he had me go to the ER. After a CT they told me I was fine- gave me some pain meds and sent me home around 4:30am.Well my surgon called me at 8:30am furious that the ER doctorsent me home and said basically, I am compacted-my colon is full to the max. I am 5.5 weeks post op-my surgon is calling me tomorrow to see how I am doing and if we need to take another step and have me come back in- I was told prune juice and see how that helps and if not we'll go from their.
Does anybody have any tips?? I'd rather stay in my own bed and not be put in the hospital because of it getting to the point of being toxic...

If you are that full of poo you need more than prime juice!
I would get an enema, or at least some suppositories to get you started. MOM (Milk of Magnesia ) is safe to use... 1 dose every hour up to 5-6 times.
Once you get going set up a bowel regime to keep you going.
I use Colace (stool softener) with each calcium dose, plus generic Benefiber 2 tablespoons in the morning another tablespoon in the evening if needed.
Good daily fluid intake and miralax or benefiber are great to help prevent constipation, but don't do much to open you up once you get constipated.

I would do an enema then follow up with Milk if magnesia the next day. I was allowed MOM and took it a few times since surgery. Prune juice probably isn't potent enough if your bowels are that full.

I had that after surgery and was in hospital 7 days, I was told walk walk walk, finally they moved straight into diarrhea, since home, 3 weeks now, I am somewhat constipated, I take two stool softness in the morning with two citrates, I chew the citracel, though not chewable kind, they chew well, then at night I take 2 more stool softness, not constipated going everyday. This needs attention. It is serous to be that packed, from anthestic my colon was paralyzed and was not working due to anthesia, not GB, my stomach was huge, but I did not have pain. Best to u.
I suggest you use a stool softener as well and drink lots of fluids. The stool softener pulls fluid from you body to your colon to soften the stools and then they can be eliminated. So you must drink the fluid. This is a serious matter and you need to get some system in place so it doesn't happen again. I have a terrible time with the calcium constipating me and my nurse practioner told me to take it with magnesium so I will be buying some and doing that as well.
