Anybody had back pain after surgery?
My back HURT pretty much immediately after waking up from surgery, and continued to hurt for several weeks! Then started to hurt all over again as the weight started coming off, my back was killing me! The immediate pain, I was told was from gas, and also from my arms being stretched to the sides and tied down during surgery.... the over extension of the muscles cause wicked back pain for me! Then once my weight started coming off, I had extreme back pain again to the point where I went to my dr and said OMG, Ive never had back issues my entire life, but now, after walking a short distance it cramps up... or really just getting out of bed in the morning, the pain is there! He said its because my muscles are trying to figure out my new posture. THEN came to outrageous tail bone pain! I had some form of back pain for about the first 6 months post op.... and had never had back issues previously. Thank goodness it all went away.... but i still remember the back pain and have a totally new understanding of what it feels like when someone says their back is killing them :)

You are so right, MissCalla. I hurt so bad also from being stretched and the hospital bed was killing my back.. Then came the tailbone pain!!! OMG! I couldn't sit for more than fifteen minutes after the weight starting coming off and it was miserable. Not to frighten anyone, but it was more common than I thought. I started reading on here about others having the same problem so I was relieved but it took awhile before the pain subsided. Yes, our gait from walking changes and if you already have back problems and/or hip problems as I do, it made it so much worse.
To all pre-op and newbies don't panic, this doesn't happen to everyone and make sure your back pain is connected to that and not something else. Jane
For some reason that saying, 'you know you are getting old when your back goes out more then you do' popped into my head lol

I had post op back pain for a few weeks as well. I think it was a mixture of gas and the result of laying on a hard table during my surgery. Not to mention the hospital beds. Attempt different positions to attempt to get comfy. You may have been a stomach sleeper or a side sleeper and now your body is in a different position. Your body is just attempting to sort it self out.
I'm a little more than 3 weeks post op and have had horrible lower back pain. Called the RN, she said it could be from the position on the table (I was in surgery for 3 hours.) After asking about possible kidney infection (no) she had no advice to give.
Today I went to my massage therapist for an hour massage. Explained to her that I'd just had RNY, what was going on. She worked wonders, a gentle touch rather than deep tissue that she usually does. That did the trick. I can still feel a spasm occasionally, but am going for another massage next week.
It's well worth the money - but at 1 week out, I wouldn't recommend it yet. Not until after surgeon releases you with no restrictions.
Hope you feel better soon!
Yup really bad right now started immediately after surgery but it's likely non-surgery related but more to the weight loss. A month ago i started with significant left leg pain and i had an MRI and i have a bulging disk pressing on nerves in my back.. if it becomes too painful don't hesitate before it gets out of control like mine did.
