What can I do about the exhaustion?

I am nearly 3 weeks post- op and I am still exhausted. I feel as if though I am totally drained of blood. I am taking all the vitamins according to Kelly and Lora's suggestion and I have about 600 calories of food a day. I have 70g of protein and drink enough water.    . I can only walk 2 km's a day, which is less than I normally walk per day.

Do you have any suggestions?

Rest! You are only 3 weeks out from major surgery combined with a highly restricted diet. Your body is telling you to rest because you need it. I think that I was still taking a daily nap at a month out when, for me, it seemed to turn around. It is very different for everyone, some bounce right back and go back to work very early and some need more time. If you are one that needs more time you should listen kiss

I was completely exhausted for the first 6 weeks.  It sounds like you have a great start but I honestly think it takes time to get back into the swing of things and get your energy back up.  Good Luck!  :)

It's normal to be tired right now.  What you can do is keep up what you've been doing and get lots of rest.  If you're not feeling any better in a few weeks, I'd call your doc and ask him/her to order some labs.

However.  If you really feel like this is more than normal after surgery exhaustion, and if you didn't have your iron and B12 checked before surgery (I really hope no surgeon is operating without checking your iron, but you never know), then I'd call yoru doc and ask to get those checked now.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I was completely exhausted and severely depressed for the first month. By month 2 I forced myself to get up and exercise. I ended up walking a 5k for organ donation about a month and a week out. Now I have all kinds of energy and I feel great. It will turn around. I waited mine out but at 3 weeks I was coming home from work and going to sleep!

I finally turned the corner about week 5. Until then, I was so tired, I was sure there was a major problem somewhere lol

I was low in iron pre-op and given an infusion during surgery prep. After a few weeks, I became a little more lethargic and my Doctor recommended that I increased my iron since I am usually low. About a week later, I was feeling great and ready to move again. So, it could be your body healing or it could be anemia but if you feel worse than you did the first week, ask your Doc. He might want to see you a little earlier than the one month follow-up.

I felt tired for first 2 months, and then although I felt good after, and was functioning etc, I didn't feel myself, full on normal, out of zombie mode until 6 months post op. I remember thinking omg, there has to be something the matter, but all my labs at that time were normal... Again I don't mean I felt too tired, or sick for 6 months haha I just didn't feel full on myself :)
