frozen food after WLS

Right now I am on summer vacation from work (Yay for being a teacher!) I will be about 2 months out when I go back to work. Since I am single so during the school year I would live on frozen things I could come home and just heat up. Things like frozen chicken tenders, frozen dinners, frozen Stouffer meals, things that were already pre-made. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on already prepped meals that are a good go to after weight loss surgery. I do plan on making things during the weekend and freezing them for quick heat up during the week too.

Thanks!

Since my surgery in Sept, I haven't had a single "frozen" meals.  Its too much salt/sodium in those and they aren't healthy overall.  I make a can of tuna or chicken and it lasts me a few days. Leftovers are great also.

Frozen chicken breast, egg white/vegie muffins made and frozen, frozen shrimp and vegies, protein soup and vegies, chili, refried beans and chicken.. All can be frozen and reheated. You will get real creative :)

if you cook, i would put a crock pot to work, make a huge pot of taco meat, eat that night, then freeze the rest in small ziplock baggies, flatten them and they stack better in the freezer, make spaghetti sauce and freeze it also....i have made like 10 pounds of meath loaf and made one for the night, then froze them in baggies uncooked then just take out baggie and mu**** when it thaws and then throw in the oven when i walked in the door..you can make soups also and freeze them....pulled pork...i use my crock pot ALOT and freeze ALOT of stuff too...

i dont hardly ever buy any pre made food, not before surgery...its the same kind of mess to make 3 pounds of taco meat as it is 10 pounds of taco meat, just more money for ingredients, but lasts alot longer.....

good luck

have a blessed day

I get the bags of individually frozen chicken breasts, I can get 2-3 meals out of a single chicken breast and its quick to defrost. I also have one of the smallest crock pots, which makes it easy to cook up the small servings. If you cut the chicken into bite sized pieces, add low sodium chicken broth, sauce, veggies etc which you've already heated in the microwave, mine will cook on high in less than 2 hours. So, after work, I can start it, go to the gym, and when I get home, supper is ready.

Since my rny,my tastebuds haven't enjoyed pre-made meals, they all seem extremely salty, which they are-but now I can taste it. I agree with the others, make stuff on your own to your tastes and then freeze.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I am new to crock pot meals but one of my favorite recipes pre-op is chicken breast, taco seasoning, chicken broth, and a ranch packet. So that could be something to make a lot of and freeze. I guess the week before I go back it would be good to try and make something new everyday and freeze the leftovers so I will be set for awhile for quick dinners.

Is that the recipe Tracy? It sounds good and I'd like to try it.

Just one chicken breast?

It is a pound of chicken, a package of taco seasoning, a package of ranch dressing, and 1/2 a can of chicken broth. Put all in the crock pot cook for 4 hrs on low. About 1/2 hr before it is done shred chicken with a fork and mix

it is my favorite recipe! I hope I still like it when I get to solid foods again.

I do a lot of one dish meals, like chili or a big pot of beans, and put a couple servings in the fridge for the next day or two and freeze the rest in individual portions.

You can find frozen meals, like Lean Cuisine, that aren't too bad health-wise.  They aren't good choices all the time because most are high in carbs and sodium.  Look for ones that have a starch you can skip or just eat a couple bites of.  For instance, if it's chicken and veggies and mashed potatoes on the side, you could just eat the chicken and veggies.  If it's pasta, you're better off skipping it.
