Seriously need the info on post-op bloating
Hi everyone - I'm 5 days out from surgery and still feeling very bloaty! I'm walking everyday, getting my fluids and about 45 grams of protein. But I'm incredibly bloated. I'd sure like to hear about what to expect to lessen this bloating - I can't button anything and I've cut the elastics on my pj bottoms to make them more comfortable. Thank you for listening to me gripe (sorry).
I see some people post about using Gas X to help get rid of the surgical gas, but I don't understand physiologically how that would help since the gas is pumped into the abdominal cavity and, as I understand it, Gas X is for ridding gas in the digestive tract (colon, bowels). Am I missing something?
I'm 12 days post- op and my bloating went away at about 10 days post-op. Don't worry, it will go away. I think some of it is swelling, too.

I did not ever feel so bloated I had to take my elastics out of my jammies.
Are your rings and shoes tight? If so, you might want to consult your doctor. Edema that severe is not a good thing. If it is just your belly, it might just be a sign for you to get out and walk, walk, walk.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
I'm 6 days post and still have a lot of intestinal gas that is at least in part from reabsorbing the gas from surgery. I am also just starting to lose the edema from all of the IV fluid from surgery. Keep walking and try the Gas-X. My understanding is that the Gas-X breaks the surface tension of the bubbles in the intestine, keeping them from getting too large and uncomfortable and easier to expel.
