4.5 weeks post-op & don't agree with doctor
It's good to ask questions if you're confused or unsure. It's also perfectly OK to ask your doctor questions if you are not sure about his advice. You can ask him why he doesn't recommend staying on pureed food longer and see if his response makes sense to you.
You do have the right to choose not to follow his advice, though. There are a number of things I've decided not to take my doc's advice about. For instance, my surgeon advised me to take calcium carbonate, and I chose to take calcium citrate instead, since I've read that we can't absorb calcium carbonate. My PCP just recently advised me that my labs were all fine, including my ferritin, which is extremely low at just 15. He advised continuing on the amount of iron I've been taking. I decided not to follow that advise, and instead increased my iron from 75 mg to 300 mg, based on my research, because I don't like being exhausted all the time, and I don't want my hair to fall out and would prefer not to have heart trouble.

Everyone's plan is different, many surgeons start pureed foods right in the hospital as mine did (one of the top bariatric surgeons in the country). I started soft foods at 4 weeks, which really is real foods with the exception of some harder to digest/chew foods like broccoli and tougher meats (steak, pork, etc). I'll be 6 weeks on Tuesday and by then I'll have the green light to try whatever I want, keeping all my nutritional goals and measurements in mind of course (that doesn't mean go out and chow down on something unhealthy, it's always going to be protein first, low fat, low sugar, etc).

CW 190!!! GW Anything under 200 was the icing on the cake...going for 170...lil more icing never hurt anybody!
Our reintroduction to good was EXTREMELY slow.
3 days clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 3 weeks purée, 4 weeks soft then on to "regular" consistency. So 9+ weeks before a "regular" diet.
Do what your plan calls for.
What do you mean by "work just as well?"

Sounds okay. Some people are on purees right from day two. No worries.

Regular? I guess he used a bad description. Protein foods, pureed or real soft like yogurt. Even meats and other foods will be difficult to swallow because of your scar tissue inside where everything`s reconnected. It took 12 weeks before I could comfortably swallow normal food(protein) and now I eat veggies(raw!) and fruits with no problem. Some meats are rough too, but it`s trial & error with meats. Good luck! It does get better once your insides are healed properly.
