Linzess (medication)

Has anyone had any experience with this new constipation med called Linzess?  Just got the Rx today. My GI doc said its ok for RNY patients...it's apparently so new that the pharmacist hasn't had a lot of people on it yet.

The label says it can cause gas and abdominal swelling...

I have a call in to my RNY surgeon...I am just curious if anyone has taken it. Thanks

I took it for awhile... it was working well, although my 'movements' were very loose... once a day.. It was just so great to go for a while and then it just seemed to stop working. So, I stopped taking it ($45 co-pay for me). I am now managing pretty well with daily miralax and prunes.

I have a rx for it for colonic inertia but does not work for me. Some people have great success with it but have to stick to it

Thanks for the information. much appreciated, .... and yes, I have had a GI specialist for lower bowel stuff since before my WLS...been there done that with pretty much everything, diet and OTC wise...and several other Rx's.  and several kinds of tests, scans and scopes swallows and all that stuff  . Doc thinks my lower bowel is shutting down and we are trying this "one last thing" before they consider surgical options. I was not looking forward to the abdominal swelling  side effect that this med has listed, as I am REALLY enjoying my pouch. They told me (and I called the pharmaceutical company to ask them as well) that it works by drawing body fluids into the lower bowel area similar to miralax but at a faster rate....and to stay extra hydrated, which could be a challenge, as I have an ulcer at the moment....ay ay ay. Anyway. I am glad there are IV's for rehydration. And I am grateful for having a NUT and a MD who know that I am doing everything I can do on my part. I really appreciate the information from folks who have taken it.
