Every surgeon and plan is different of course, but I have to say that most of the typical protein shakes are not high calorie (1 scoop of powder is between 80-100 calories, and that's all you use to make an 8 oz. shake). You can make them using water or milk (skim milk plus is 90 calories and about 9g protein). So you would get about 30g in for a protein shake made this way. Most are low or no carb also, and low or no sugar...Protein is the number one thing you need and that is why protein shakes are typically given to patients, especially in the first few weeks/mos post op because it is easiest to get in your protein and liquid requirements this way. Also most patients aren't able to "feel hunger" early out either, that is kind of a silly reason to  recommend against it...You're healing and swollen inside and the nerves take time to reconnect, most aren't physically able to feel hunger for at least several weeks, some for months and beyond. Especially since you are nauseous and haven't eaten lately, I would discuss it, especially about some Zofran or something to get that under control.

Yeah I don't understand it either but if I can't get protien in with food then Im gunna drink some shakes. Protein is what I need to help heal, muscles and energry as you already know.

Oh...k...Not sure why you're so agitated but it's information for her. If she's sick of reading it she can PM me and complain or just ignore it. You know, the same thing most people seem to tout on here, take or toss the information you get, you can't choose the responses? I see the same information posted and re-posted day after day on here, but I guess I'm the target of the evening here? No problem...

No it's just you...I certainly don't feel I treated her any such way, just stating some basic information. She is an adult and can advocate for herself if she does feel this way.  If someone hasn't eaten anything at all for 5 days and feels she is getting dehydrated (which she wrote in a later post down a few in the thread) I would hope someone would urge her to be checked since she was turned away because it was closing time at her surgeon's office. What ever is right...
