Is laxatives and enemas going to be a permanent part of my life post op?
I will be 6 months post-op on September 5th. My biggest issue post-op is the HORRIBLE constipation. It's every other day i have issues. I've been in the ER once for a huge clean out. Certain foods used to be the staples in my house and instead it's now Colace, Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Gas X, and Saline Enema's. I have tried increasing fiber and every so often i am okay but mostly constipated. I went 2 days without MOM and now im having a hard time again!! This was only not taking MOM i was still taking the colace 2x day and was doing bran flakes in my greek yogurts. I don't know if at 6 months out i am at a point where i need to follow-up with my gastroenterologist. I know all of my organs were rearranged but i hate relying upon laxatives to go. Pretty sad when your jealous of people who can easily take a poop... i know TMI. Anyone else still having constipation issues? I also do rely upon saline enemas especially when i have pushed over 30 minutes and cannot get anything to come out.... one thing and only thing i still cannot get used to being post-op.
Well, Miralax has become a permanent part of my life. I take it almost every day. It's not a big deal to me to take it daily, and as long as I do, I very rarely have a problem with constipation.
Are you getting enough liquids?

Try the daily miralax, the BJs brand is much less expensive and mixes well in any liquid I have tried.

I had horrible constipation for about ten months. Horrible. As in so bad, I was ready to give myself a c-section. Then two months ago, I changed two things, so I can't tell you which one worked. First, I changed my iron supplement from ferrous sulfate to carbonyl, which Poet Kelly can tell you helps with constipation. Second, I started eating more as I reached maintenance. I'm eating just about twice as many calories now as I had been previously. And I'm not really constipated at all anymore.

I have had issues too. Still trying to find out what works for me. Thought I had it figured out and now it isn't working :(
Good luck!
