My RNY was 8/28/2013. The cardio Dr wants me on a baby aspirin so my bariatric surgeon put me on Carafate. Food ...even water seems to have a hard time going down. Is this common?

Didnt know carafate had blood thinners in it . I was given it to stop ulcers. Seems like that would be contradictory. Might be worth checking at your pharmacy. I have an easier time eating with the carafate because it coats my pouch. I wait a half hour to an hour between the dose and my meal. Maybe its coumadin? That made me a little nauseated at first but it went away.

The carafate is to prevent ulcers that could be caused by the aspirin.  I would take the carafate before the aspirin.  You are still early out and a lot of people have a hard time getting their food and water down.  Just take it slow and chew as much as you can in very smal bites.

I have major cardiac issues and have to take a baby aspirin a day but take it along with a prevacid. I use an enteric coated baby aspirin. I know some people think that a coated medicine won't work after surgery but it does. I am almost at my 1 yr mark and doing fine.

thanks babs

I'll be on the CARAFATE for 90 days to protect the new pouch seam.  Then just the aspirin and protonix.

I've had 2 MIs, 4 stents, and 2 ablations.

Good Luck to you.
