Another ER visit! Ulcer??
ER doctor thinks I have an ulcer or my gastritis returned. I was on carafate and doing well now he put me back on carafate. I am having horrible nausea and really not eating at ally stomach burns or I get nauseous and to top it off I need a tooth extracted that is badly infected was referred to an oral surgeon which wants around $600 for this one tooth for anesthesia and stuff. I have surgery sept 30th and I need another steroid injection for my herniated disc I am so overwhelmed right now. I am really like eating nothing all day and night hurts to much or I take 3 bites and I'm done!! Any suggestions?? I am really not eating anything and I'm always nauseous. I drank orange juice the other day and my stomach burned!!
I'm so sorry. It sounds miserable.
Can you at least do some sort of protein drink right now? Something like Isopure or Cytomax ready to drink might be easy on your stomach. I personally don't love the taste but it's not horrible, either. I find them best really icy cold. They are more like a Gatorade consistency, not a milky shake.
Orange juice is pretty acidic and might be hard on your stomach if you have an ulcer.
How about yogurt?

Yes I am doing Greek yogurt when I can handle it and I bought some pure protein 35g cans I hope I can drink! I'm just afraid I am going to never get enough protein cause I can literally eat pretty much nothing without the nausea. The orange juice and pain is making me think even more so ulcer or returning gastritis :(
I have an anastomatic ulcer and it hurts like a mother.... I'm 3 weeks out and had an endoscopy last week that showed the nasty bugger in my new pouch at the connection at the esophagus. I am so upset and miserable and I too am living mostly on water. Swallowing protein drinks is excruciationg for me and I've never tasted anything as nasty as Isopure in my life. Greek yogurt is all I could tolerate last week but today I managed to get in some hummus and Chicken Salad from Zoe's Kitchen. Other than tiny nibbles of greek yogurt, it was the first real food I've had. I'm too am on Carafate. I'm supposed to take it 4x a day but i'm taking it more often because even swallowing water hurts. My doctor told me to take more pain medication to try and get more protein in or the other alternative he suggested was to come back to the hospital and get a feeding tube placed in my remnant stomach to get some nutrition. I wanted to ask him if that was a joke as this seems like an awful solution. He was serious. :( Call your doc first thing in the am, ask for an endoscopy so you can know for sure so you can treat it properly. I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy.

I know it's definitely an ulcer or gastritis. My last endoscopy in April showed gastritis and acid reflux but no ulcer. The pain has come back now though and is accompanied by constant nausea and sharp pains in the upper center of my stomach to the point I have to hold my belly and curl up. I see my surgeon next week for my 6 month post op appt but I did already call and make them aware I was in the ER for this. They gave me morphine through iv which helped some but not completely and 20 pain pills which don't touch the pain. I am also taking zofran Like 2x day! My stomach has been making like bubbling noises lately too. Something definitely doesn't feel right!!! They already know about my gastritis so I don't know that she will do another endoscopy she may just keep me on carafate scripts again idk till I talk to her next week. Most goods though may me sick unless it's a protein bar of liquid stuff like Greek yogurt. I tried one of those chicken stuffed frozen chickens for the protein yesterday and not only did I dump off of 3 bites if it but I got horrible stomach pains too! Today I have gotten in a 35g pure protein shake, quest protein bar, fudgesicle, and 2 Greek yogurts for the whole day/night working on a 2nd protein bar now but yeah water hurts going down too. I hope they don't suggest a feeding tube yikes :( I hope u feel better too. What were your symptoms?
My symptoms were exactly like yours. The pain is in the dead center of my chest/stomach just below my breast bone. It feels like someone is stabbing right through me. It doubles me over just to drink a sip of water. The endoscopy is needed to see if it is in fact an ulcer, then another should be done in 4-6 weeks to see if it has healed. My suggestion regarding food is to stay away from wheat. If you have gastritis, wheat and gluten will only flare it up and cause you more pain. The pain of this ulcer is more painful than I ever imagined possible. Zofran doesn't work for me for nausea so I have phenergan suppositories instead. My doc suggested the liquid pain med (lortab) to help get my pain under control to help me get some food in but unless I chase it with carafate it feels like I'm pouring kerosene down my esophagus it burns so badly when it hits the ulcer in my pouch then I'm so nauseated I have to follow that with phenergan. Protein drinks burn like the dickens. :(
Updating to let everyone know this infected tooth was successfully extracted today with no anesthesia which means I only paid $48 out of pocket very happy about that. Also got my 6 month post op labs done today. Now just to get through my surgery and my possible ulcer and the rest if my cavities one thing at a time.
