Approval & No protein drinks
I am supposed to stay on the liquid for 7 - 14 days or until I am not satisfied and then start slowly to encorporate soft foods.
It is really interesting how everyones surgeon has different plans post op.

They are having you go TWO WEEKS without protein? Personally, I would not ever return to that doctor. That us downright scary to me!!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
At the very least, I would ask if there was some reason I would be harmed by drinking clear protein drinks instead of sports drinks, and if there wasn't (I can't imagine what that reason would be), I would drink them instead of sports drinks.

No protein at all for up to two weeks? that sounds unwise to me. Why doesn't she want you to have any protein? How is your body supposed to heal with no protein?

So I have several questions for the doc.
Don't believe the ignorant scaremongerers on here ... I have NEVER drunk a protein drink or eaten a protein bar. I lost all my weight in 6 months, and have maintained a 100% weight loss for 9 years.
The people trying to scare you don't have that long an experience - you have chosen your surgeon for a reason and there is no reason why old ladies on the internet should sway that decision!
Good luck with your surgery.

If I remember rightly, clear fluids for 4 days, full liquids for 3 days, soft foods for 3 days and then whatever I could tolerate! Just doing fluids for the week ensured that I was well hydrated before starting on food.
I don't have a problem with whatever people do, by all means, have at those shakes and bars, but I do have a problem when people who are weeks or months out, post like they are the experts and everyone else (including other surgeons) are stupid!
Stick to YOUR surgeon's plan and whatever that is, you can be sure there are people that did the same with success or he wouldn't recommend it!!! When you are further out, you can assess his recommendations and do what works for you.

When I had surgery my surgeon had a three week protein drink regimen. He has since adjusted his thinking. So I had protein drinks, broth, and water for three weeks. It didn't hurt me, but I was so glad to have real food again.
More surgeons are getting on board with a shorter period of fluids and food sooner. I think going too long on protein shakes can encourage food aversion, but all of this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions
