I had RNY a little over 3 years ago. April of 2012 i had my gallbladder out and since then i have had acid reflux. Ended up about a month ago in the er with pains, vomiting, and diarrhea. Was given some meds for IBS and diagnosed as having gastritis....my RNY doc said that's what they call it when they don't know what's wrong. I had an endoscopy the other day and this is my results:

1. Hiatal hernia
2. Grade C Esophagitis with superficial ulceration
3. ulceration of 0.4 cm size seen near anastomosis and biopsy was taken4
4. Small bowel ulceration seen near anastomosis, biopsy taken.

GI doc gave me 2 prescriptions...for acid reflux and ulcers...fun.

anyone else have the hiatal hernia after do many years? Was anything done about it? It's in my pouch.

Thank you, Christina.  I'm sure the ulcers will heal...  Just don't know about that hernia.  I have gained about 40 lbs since January - my mom was sick and passed away in March, so I'm losing it back again.  It's been a long battle and anyone that says bypass is an easy way out - it's not...still have to work at it...

I had a hiatal hernia diagnosed 2 years after surgery. It was discovered during a diagnostic lap to see why I was having unbearable pain.  The Dr. went ahead and repaired it.  They didn''t think it was the cause, but I haven't had any problems since.

I had mine repaired 2 months ago during exploratory surgery, It was also in the pouch, at that time I also had to have 1/2 remnant stomach removed, every day is a better day, good luck to you:)

Oh wow - why did they remove 1/2 the remnant stomach?  If you don't mind me asking?   I can't wait for my appointment for my RNY doc.  He is 2 hours away and I don't know if I would trust just anyone going in there and repairing that hernia if they have too....

home from exploratory

and man o man did they explore, They did remove 1/2 remnant stomach because of adhesions, scaring  the length of remnant . at the pouch was hiatal  hernia, aslo a incisional hernia repair, and three hours of adhesion scrapping , I was out for 5 1/2 hours, , this is just a run down, got home this afternoon, Dr gave in cause I have Tom, he cracks the whip, we walked,  sipped & tooted, still have a lot of  pain, I guess all the innards were glued to gether like a basket ball,  I am on the soft food stage for two weeks, thank you all for all the goothoughts, prayers and cyber hugs, Have not been nauseated once and no puke, I am one lucky lady,

Hopefully the meds for the ulcer will help. Hiatal hernias are failure common even amongst the normal population. My mom and sister both have one. I know for severe problems they can do a Neison (sp??) wrap but not sure how that would work for us.

One of the aide affects of the hernia is acid reflux. Did they give you a PPI? Carafate?
