My husband and I both were in the hospital less than 24 hours. We were glad to go home quickly!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I am going to be the odd case here.  I was in for three nights and went home early afternoon on the fourth day.  I was initially supposed to be there for two nights but I had an odd occurrence.  Initially, I hadn't been draining a lot of fluid and on the second night, I felt something pinch and pop at the drain.  The next morning they checked the drain and it was FULL.  The nurse went to empty it and it exploded out with pressure.  She emptied it and it filled again and again she emptied it and the drainage slowed down.  The doctors were going to clear me to send me home and a different one asked if I would be willing to stay another day and take a CAT scan.  They said that while they didn't think I had any leaks as I was not exhibiting any overt symptoms, the behavior of my drain could indicate a leak.  I agreed to stay.  The cat scan involved drinking juice with contrast in it over a period of about 6 hours, followed by swallowing as white, thick, liquid contrast just before the scan (while on the machine).  Thankfully all was fine.

I found the hospital where I stayed to be as comfortable as a hospital could and have no complaints.  The entire staff really went out of their way to be helpful and make you as comfortable as possible.

I had two nights, because I had some adverse side effects from the anesthesia that really pushed me back. I think what's important is that no matter how long you stay, you remember that it's only temporary. I did not want to stay another night, but at the end of it all, you WILL be going home!

I'm told to expect two nights n release on 3rd day. I may also have Gallbladder out.
Day two swallow test is required.

Am I crazy to be totally ok with staying 2 nights?!
