Stiches

So I didn't realize that we are NOT suppose to wash our incisions, just let the warm water run on it....well needless to say the gooey tape has been coming off, but yesterday I notice that there is a wire stitch sticking through! It's about 1cm long and it's metallic. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned and contact the surgeon or will it wear off/fall off on it's own?

I had one of my incisions open back up and was able to see the stitch on the inside. I had it checked to make sure it was infected and was told it will heal on its own. Well I didn't have an infection and itsud heal on its own, but it has just now healed all the way. I'll be 10wks out on Thursday and the scab that formed has just fallen off. My NP has checked it through out this time and said it was fine. I wish you luck. I would call my surgeon just to have it checked out.

You must have missed that information in your discharge instructions.

Call your surgeon's office. You do NOT want to get a post-op infection and complications.

Once my glue wore off, I found I had a stitch poking through as well. For me, it wasn't metal and it wasn't that long, but I could still feel it and see it.

I did tell my surgeon. He told me not to worry - it would dissolve. A week or so ago (so, after 2 months) the incision blistered. I was told to leave it alone. I did, and once the blister went down, the stitch just fell out on its own.

Are your stitches dissolvable? You should probably contact your surgeon or PCP, but don't stress. They'll likely tell you to let it resolve.
