Broke down and took ibuprofen!!!

I had plantar fasciitis and I was miserable. Luckily, it went away once I lost about 40 pounds (after my RNY).  I had tried everything but surgery-- foot-icing, custom orthotics, wearing a night splint, taking Mobic (a strong nsaid that was tough on my kidneys so I stopped taking it), painful heel injections, etc.  If losing weight through RNY wasn't going to fix the problem, then I was going to have surgery on my foot. Has your doctor considered doing this?

I hope you get some relief soon! I know how tough it is to deal with constant foot pain!

I have had shots in both of my feet so far this year. My podiatrist wants to fit me with custom orthotics because of my high arches. I was suppose to go back a couple of months ago but I had so many dr appointments I had to miss my appointment. I will be calling them monday morning though. My foot didn't hurt as bad as it did yesterday. The ibuprofen kicked in pretty fast. But I know I can't continue to take it. I have had xrays done of my feet and both have heel spurs. but heel spurs and plantar fasciitis can happen at the same time. I think heel spurs can aggravate plantar fasciitis. At least that is what my podiatrist has explained.

Nsaids like Motrin and Ibuprofen can cause ulcers in patients who have had gastric bypass. Something about we don't have the digestive juices in our stomach to help protect against it.

We are no more likely to get ulcers than anyone else -  with or without WLS.   NSAIDS have a systemic effect, on the stomach,  it has NOTHING to do with them touching our stomach at all - which is why it is not a good idea to have them IV or in patches either!!!!

The only problem for us is that if we get an ulcer in the blind stomach it cannot be scoped for diagnosis.   Considering most doctors will just treat a "suspected" ulcer without scoping, we are no worse off than someone with a VSG or DS!!!!   If it bleeds badly and needs treatment, they would open us up anyway.

Taking any medication long term comes with possible side effects - personally I would not want to live my life, as a relatively young person, taking Tylenol every day either (because of it's effects on the liver).

So then you are saying it is fine to take occasional Motrin? That is the ONLY thing that helps my cramps during TOM.

I'm saying no such thing!

I'm giving you information - do your own research and make your own decisions ...

I make decisions regarding MY health with information that I have gleaned and my medical history.   As a former health professional (midwife) I would NEVER give anyone advice regarding their medical decisions without knowing their medical history!
