What do i need to know about an ulcer post-op?
I had an EGD earlier this week my 2nd one since April. My RNY was 3/5/13. I was DX with mild gastritis back in April. Anyway i guess my recent EGD showed severe gastritis and i heard someone say they took a biopsy because my small intestine was really inflammed. Well today i got my result page a different one where all the different issues are and they checked off my EGD showed an "ulcer" they didnt check off gastritis and was checked off to return in a year for another EGD. I've been in and out of the ER a lot for severe stomach pain.. i can't eat really anything... and drinking forget it! Will a biopsy show the gastritis was indeed an ulcer if they didnt initially see it with the scope? I didn't know a biopsy could show an ulcer.. or could they have checked off the wrong spot by accident?
I don't know what kind of ulcer or exactly where it is because i have never had one before. Gastro doc has me on protonix and carafate.. how serious is an ulcer post-op? I guess i will be calling my surgeon and the gastro doc Monday to verify. What can i do for the pain??? The Carafate and Protonix is not working at this moment and i am sick of being in the ER.
What about calling in and talking to the on-call doctor this weekend? At least you could get something to make you more comfortable while you get this sorted out. Good luck!
I don't think they would consider this an emergency to call over a weekend but I will call tomorrow. Anyone have first hand experience with an ulcer?
