I'm afraid I am not a dumper

Hope you were not offended by my response to PetHairMagnet.. It was not meant to "look down" or "condescend."  I was just saying that some people truly do have disorders that are VERY hard to change.. I know as I have one of them. If I did, please accept my apologies..

Just wanted to inform that sometimes others have severe addictions that can be very hard to break.. As for dumping, whether or not people have tried to figure it out or not, I am sure it has crossed most every one's mind at one point or another after surgery...

Keep working hard!

I understood what you meant. No harm no foul.

I assumed from day one that I dumped.  I didn't want to have to prove it to myself.  Just knowing what it was like according to so many was enough for me not to risk it.  Fast forward about 6 months.  I was really into making all different recipes for protein shakes and buying all kinds of sugar free syrup.  I had just finished a shake when I got sick.  I remember hearing people saying that they got the feeling that dying would be a relief and that was exactly how I felt.  I knew I was dumping but I didn't know why.  I remember people saying it usually lasted about 30 minutes and it was almost exactly to the minute that I was able to function so there was no doubt.  Detective work brought me to the last thing I consumed and I checked all the ingredients and I wasn't surprised to see that, in spite of the obvious difference in the labels, I had picked up regular syrup instead of sugar free.  So I had my answer.  I swore to be more careful from then on.

Now, fast forward a few weeks later.  Same scenario, experimenting with making protein shakes and then back in the bathroom praying for death.  After I somewhat recovered I checked my kitchen and this time it was regular pudding mix instead of sugar free.  To be fair to myself, Walmart's Great Value brand of pudding mixes do look very similar.  Thankfully that was the last time because I am completely anal about what I put in my mouth.  If I'm not positive there isn't sugar in it I don't eat it.

I find myself continuously amazed at how self-righteous some of the posters on this forum can be, so please ignore any sanctimonious comments you may get.  I think many  "newbies" worry about the same thing - starting down a slippery slope.  I dream about "accidentally" eating a bag of candy or something equally awful at least every week - although right after my surgery I was having those nightmares several times a night.  It is getting better and I am getting stronger.  It seems the longer I go without, the less I want it - hopefully it is the same for you!  Good luck and know your strength -

Well the one responding tends to come across as a know it all and is ONLY 6 months out.  We see this happen occasionally where they believe they will always be perfect when in fact NO one is and those that think they are invincible are the ones that will be dealing with the struggles later.

We all have our good moments and bad moments, unfortunately you'll find some that talk down to others often.

I'm not a rainbow and puppy dog tail kinda poster but I do want to help and I Know I can be snarky and *****y sometimes.  I try to back out of the response when it's too frustrating.

I learn that I was a dumper 9 month post op. I dumped on too many sugars in milk ad yogurt combined. (had milk with my coffee and then yogurt for breakfast)

Some people may dump right from surgery (if they try o eat sugary stuff), some may develop dumping later, and some people stop dumping after a while (months or years)

There is the dump one day not the next on the same type of food.. Nobody knows why..

After that -  a year to a few years down the road - to many sugars would make most of us get RH, regardless if we dum*****t.

What did you eat, how much sugar?  There is no guarantee one way or the other if you'll dump.  My recommendation is believe you do, because once you know you don't then the struggles to stay away from sweets begins if you are a sweet eater.

When checking the nutritional data on everything even healthy foods like yogurts can greatly vary when it comes to sugar content. Naturally key lime pie flavored yogurt is junk food and Im not eating that but a fruit in the bottom greek yogurt can be as high as 10 grams of sugar in a 4-6 oz poriton.  I just wonder if I will dump one day and would rather not be caught in the street dumping on something as simple as a meal with too much starch for example.

Ten grams of sugar is not that much.  Plus, some of the sugar in that yogurt is natural sugar, in the form of lactose in milk and fructose in fruit.  If there are 10 grams total, maybe only half of that is sucrose, or table sugar.  Some people do dump on fructose or even lactose, but many do not.  More dump on sucrose.  So that flavored yogurt may have only had five grams of sucrose, which is not much at all.  I think most people would not dump on that.  Many people that do dump try not to go over 10 grams of sugar, because most can tolerate 10 grams.
