Whole wheat Bread and crackers
How often do you guys eat whole wheat bread and/or whole wheat crackers? I was having 1 slice cut in half a day with tuna fish 100% whole wheat, but hi a stall and cut it out. As far as crackers, my plan says 4-5 are ok, I use whole wheat, but the NUT. said only eating one is ok. So I am a little confused.
I avoided pretty much all breads and crackers while I was losing weight. I knew that I had a big problem with those things and I decided it was easier to avoid them then to control my intake. I wanted to make the most of my weight loss period so I stuck very closely to my plan. Once in a great while I would have oatmeal with protein powder but other then that I avoid grains.
After maintenance I decided to remain gluten free although I do eat gluten free products. I have no side effects from them and no problem limiting how much I have. I have found that wheat, in any form, white, whole or any other incarnation, is a problem for me. It is the number one reason my first WLS failed. I have never been able to eat things with wheat in moderation so I just avoid it altogether with no problem at all. Most of the time when I make food choices I ask myself what benefit I will get, meaning is there a lot of protein or fiber or whatever my body needs. That's not to say I don't have an occasional treat at times but most of the time I try to use my limited eating capacity to get in something my body needs.

While in the losing phase, I didn't eat any bread or crackers of any kind. Now that I am almost 10 years out, I eat light whole wheat toast with sugar free jelly and an egg every morning for breakfast. In order to maintain my weight loss, even at 10 years out, I have to limit breads, rice, and pasta. Everyone is different. I tend to be really carb sensitive. You will find what works best for you as you go along.
I don't eat bread of any kind if I can help it. i will on occasion pinch a corner of some bread to satisfy my taste, but I don't tolerate a lot of bread. I think (just my opinion) that we need to eat some carbs to fuel our bodies, especially if you work out. I think the whole grain is ok in moderation. I would be a little leary of bread, but 5 whole grain crackers can fit into your meal plan as long as they are part of your plan. Where we get in trouble is we add 5 here and there that were not part of our daily meal plan.
