How often do you guys eat whole wheat bread and/or whole wheat crackers?   I was having 1 slice cut in half a day with tuna fish 100% whole wheat, but hi a stall and cut it out. As far as crackers, my plan says 4-5 are ok, I use whole wheat, but the NUT.  said only eating one is ok. So I am a little confused.

i try to have whole grain bread and crackers, so for me that means sprouted grain bread (like ezekiel or trader joe's brand) and crackers made without any flour (like triscuits or mary's gone crackers). i try to avoid foods made with flour, but do have them occasionally.

I avoided pretty much all breads and crackers while I was losing weight.  I knew that I had a big problem with those things and I decided it was easier to avoid them then to control my intake.  I wanted to make the most of my weight loss period so I stuck very closely to my plan.  Once in a great while I would have oatmeal with protein powder but other then that I avoid grains.

After maintenance I decided to remain gluten free although I do eat gluten free products.  I have no side effects from them and no problem limiting how much I have.  I have found that wheat, in any form, white, whole or any other incarnation, is a problem for me.  It is the number one reason my first WLS failed.  I have never been able to eat things with wheat in moderation so I just avoid it altogether with no problem at all.  Most of the time when I make food choices I ask myself what benefit I will get, meaning is there a lot of protein or fiber or whatever my body needs.  That's not to say I don't have an occasional treat at times but most of the time I try to use my limited eating capacity to get in something my body needs.

Bread doesn't go down very well so I avoid it. I have issues with crackers lol Gold Fish/Cheese-its. I will have 5-10 sometimes. But I know that's not smart because I'm still losing and need to focus on protein.

While in the losing phase, I didn't eat any bread or crackers of any kind.  Now that I am almost 10 years out, I eat light whole wheat toast with sugar free jelly and an egg every morning for breakfast.  In order to maintain my weight loss, even at 10 years out, I have to limit breads, rice, and pasta.  Everyone is different.  I tend to be really carb sensitive.  You will find what works best for you as you go along.

I did not eat any wheat bread or crackers until well into maintenance.   I still avoid it for the most part.

I don't eat bread of any kind if I can help it. i will on occasion pinch a corner of some bread to satisfy my taste, but I don't tolerate a lot of bread. I think (just my opinion) that we need to eat some carbs to fuel our bodies, especially if you work out.  I think the whole grain is ok in moderation. I would be a little leary of bread, but 5 whole grain crackers can fit into your meal plan as long as they are part of your plan.  Where we get in trouble is we add 5 here and there that were not part of our daily meal plan.

I didn't eat bread or crackers until over a year post-op.  I rarely eat crackers now and bread maybe once every week or two.  Bread fills me up quickly.

My DR. said stay away from braid like it was herion, but that I could have crackers. I was also told I could have the "flatout" brand breads so that is what I have.

I've been adding more whole wheat breads into my diet.  I developed hypoglycemia as a result of my RNY and I was told to add it back in.  I try to only have Ezekiel breads but have added in the occasional "other" whole wheat.

Good luck!
