7th day of CLEAR liquids!

I am ready to kill someone.  Seriously.  My doctor has us stay on CLEAR liquids until our post-op class, which is always on the Tuesday following surgery.  Since I had surgery on Monday I have to be on clear liquids for 9 days.  I am so tired of jello, broth and herbal tea.  Please, please, please don't tell me this is head hunger!  I have had virtually no nutrition since Sunday morning and I cannot believe the doctor is making me do this (by the way, she is an excellent doctor with great credentials)  Can I get some sympathy?  Truly, I don't know if I'm going to make it until Tuesday. (At least the class is in the morning!)

21 days on CLEAR liquids?  I'm talking about jell-o, broth and herbal tea....is that what you mean?  I can't believe anyone would have to do that for 21 days!  Okay, you have my sympathy!!! Yuk!

I can have clear protein drinks but not regular ones.  Yes, I can have SF popsicles and they are delicious, but man, it is hard eating so many sweet things!

No clear protein drinks?  Why does she think protein would harm you?  How are you supposed to heal without any protein?

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Once I get to Tuesday, it's all about protein.  They feel it's not harmful for this long.  I disagree, but mainly because it's boring and miserable.

Wow, I am shocked by the difference in all the pre op and post op diets. My surgery is 12/3/2013 and my surgeon is Dr. James Wallace, here in Wisconsin. After my surgery, I go straight into a puréed diet, and he forbids me to use protein shakes ( which I still don't understand). I know everyone's doctor is different, but it suprises me, because we all are pretty much having the same surgery. All they drill in my head here, is protein, protein. Good luck and Tuesday is almost here!! You certainly have my sympathy, I would be homicidal too!

Thanks for the sympathy!  The only upside is that as of Tuesday I will be able to go straight to "real" food - protein, cooked vegetables and fruit.  (some fruit)  I have to supplement the first two months with two protein drinks a day because it will be hard getting enough protein with my small pouch.  Yes, it is amazing how many different pre and post op diets they come up with!  I didn't have to do anything before surgery - no liquid diet or anything.  I would literally kill for a protein drink right now!  Good luck on your surgery!  I revised from lapband to RNY and honestly it wasn't too bad.

Hi - You poor baby! There there. There there. {{{pats on back and hugs}}}

Also, you said you revised and it "wasn't too bad." I'm about to revise from Band to RNY on 12/18 and am curious as to what you mean?

Hang in there - you're almost home!
