Left Side Pain Question - Haital Hernia

I has my RNY 5 days ago and the doc found a Haital hernia that she repaired. I have to say that I totally underestimated the pain I would be in after surgery. It gets better each day but still hurts quite a bit and I am taking my pain meds on time. All the trocar site are nice and soft. I am wondering if the pain is more sever because I had the Haital hernia repaired?

I am sleeping in our lazy boy recliner as it is much easier to get in and out of. I have been walking around the house e every day and told I went outside and walked down the street. I was really hurting afterward of the left side but once I sat back down and finally relaxed, it was ok and I only had to wait about an hour to take my pain med.

Thank for any input.

I was in more pain that I expected... I was a little bummed because a lot of ladies here posted that they had very little pain... were walking a mile 3 days later, etc.  I just took the medicine, did what I could - and was pain free by about 2 1/2 weeks out.

Hope you feel better!!

I was also totally unprepared for the pain!! I had read on here how quickly people recovered so it was a total shock to me that one incision was sheer agony and I couldn't move for the pain and had to get stronger meds.

It was the incision on the far left, the largest one that they said would hurt more than the others as they cut through muscle and it's the biggest where they remove the bit of intestine from...

They decided that my nerves had been damaged in the surgery and I was given medication for that.

Take your meds on time, don't be late. It got a tiny bit better each day, but really I was in agony until day 10, then I turned a corner and the pain lifted. I am 2 weeks out and now it only really hurts if I bend/lift something.

Feel better soon!

Also, time your walks for immediately after your pain meds so that you aren't getting to the end of their effectiveness

Thanks fionax!! Glad to know you turned the corner and are doing well at 2 weeks out! I will definitely time my walks with my pain meds!!!

I'm two weeks out and had the hiatal hernia repair also.  It was painful! My doc said the hernia fix would increase the pain  in the beginning.  I had to stay at hotel, because I live too far from surgeon to come right home, and I would have gave my left arm for a recliner! When home, I slept in it for almost a week. My dr said to sip on warm liquids, broth, tea etc it would help. And it did.  I had to quit taking pain meds 4-5 days out, took last one for ride home because from past experience they constipated me horribly.  I used Tylenol for a day or so and then didn't need it.  I also have left side pain and a pouchy, swollen spot right under left boob.

Each day is better ;). We are on our way!!!!
