Bathroom Question
It took me TEN days and that's not normal for me. If you are on pain killers still, it will make it worse. As long as you are passing gas then that is a major sign that you do NOT have a blockage. I would pick up a bottle of stool softner and take 2 a day...or...get some Milk of Magnesia. Once I went, it got back to normal. And yes, this seems to be normal for all of us post op :-D
Yea, that is what I was thinking but protein shakes are NOT on my surgeon's meal plan/stages. She prefers that we eat food over the protein shakes. I can start the pureed stage tomorrow if I feel hungry. Trying to decide if I want to do that or just wait till I actually feel hungry or day 14 post op comes.
Hmmm...here is my academic answer. I can argue for or against either way.
On one hand, #2's are digested food but also gut bacteria and dead red blood cells (..this is why poop is brown). Blood cells and bacteria are still dying/turning over. So, eventually you should have to go.
Alternatively, you just had your stomach lopped off and your intestine re-routed. That is pretty invasive. I would totally get it if you the intestine doesnt feel like having parastolic action because it needs to heal.
Just my two cents.
And now I know not to panic if it takes me 10 days to go. Normally, I am a two times a day kind of girl (i like water and veggies).
Same here! 7 days post and no poo. I started Milk of Magnesia (totally disgusting, by the way) and did that a couple times along with a stool softener. Still nothing. I pass enough gas, and once when I was going pee, a tiny morsel of mushy poo came out-- I figure there is nothing or not enough in there to initiate the urge to actually go yet. I think I'm gonna wait it out a few more days. Puree and protein drinks start tomorrow for me, so hoping that might get things moving.
