It's so Different

When I travel I find myself eating in restaurants with colleagues that don't know that I had WLS. before surgery I ordered right off the menu and drank wine. Now, at just over 3 months out, I ask the servers to grill my food dry and try not to take in too much butter and oil. I also do not drink. I am finding it uncomfortable as my colleagues or friends ask me why I'm not having a glass of wine. Any suggestions as to how I can respond? I say I am watching my weight but since I've lost 46 lbs they now say that I don't need to lose weight. I just wish ppl wouldn't ask or say anything.

This is a good example of why I just tell everyone I had surgery.  Full disclosure can be very freeing.

If you really want to keep your surgery a secret, just tell them that you are on a diet and wine isn't allowed.  Not a lie.

If they tell you you don't need to lose any  more weight -- tell them you haven't reached your goal yet.

I think a lot of people don't like to drink alone.Even if there are other people at the table drinking.I had gone to a family function and everyone wanted me to do a shot with them. When they said my name like ten times to come out and do with them. What came out of my mouth was I am pregnant. I couldn't help myself.Even though everyone knows I had a hysterectomy three years ago.I know this is unrealistic but it was funny.I also say with the holidays coming I am pacing myself and I usually gain 25 lbs from Halloween and New Years.I am sure this may hel*****t.

In this day and age it is just crazy you have to justify NOT drinking! And saying you need to drive home or choosing not to drink should be enough. I agree, they should just say nothing!

HW333--SW 289--GW of 160 5' 11" woman.  I only know the way I know & when you ask for input/advice, you'll get the way I've been successful through my surgeon & nutritionist. Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Just tell them you don't drink or quit.

Never accept NO for an answer.

If you don't care what they think of you, tell them it interferes with your Antabuse. Hahaha.

Seriously though, just tell them you don't feel like it, cutting calories, it gives you a headache, interferes with a medication, none of their business, etc.

Just say that the wine has not been agreeing with you lately so you are avoiding it for now!

All good answers.  A lot of people are allergic to sulfates in wine, as it can give you a bad headache.  You could always say that.
