Did you lose any weight between surgery & 2 week post op follow up?
Congrats on your surgery!
I wouldn't even worry about your number at 2 weeks post-op. I am now 4 weeks post-op and I have lost over 30 lbs, but I'll have my official 1 month post-op and weigh in tomorrow. I didn't weigh myself when I came home from the hospital but I know I gained well over 20 lbs due to my IV running continuously at a high volume for 3 days. I had to go to my PCP at 9 days post-op and I was TWO LBS HEAVIER than I was the day of surgery!
There are so many variables that make each person's journey unique such as: how much fluid were you given in the hospital, how adept is your body at flushing fluids (mine is terrible, apparently), how much fluid weight were you storing prior to surgery, how much weight you need to lose overall, etc. I would hazard a guess that in order to lose 28 lbs in two weeks, that person lost a huge amount of fluid retention.
Don't forget your basic body math in regards to how many approximate calories it takes to lose/gain a lb of FAT (not just weight...that is a different situation, but I want to lose FAT)...3500 calories, so in order to have lost 28 lbs of FAT, she would have needed to have burned 98,000 calories in two weeks, or created a 7,000 calorie a day deficit. My money would be on water weight. I know for myself a fair amount of weight I have lost since surgery is water weight because I tend to retain water, and I am absolutely fine with that, but I am realistic and know that my loss will slow down once the water weight is shed.
I realize this is an emotional journey and it is easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others, but do yourself a favor and only compare yourself to you. Write down your measurements each month, take pictures, journal your newly found successes. We are all on a similar journey, but that journey is uniquely yours. Not everyone can walk a mile a day when they get home, not everyone is immediately pain free, and not everyone immediately jumps back into their regular life. It would be nice if we all did those things, but that's not reality. I would caution you against taking everything someone emphatically tells you about their journey and comparing it to yours...take want you want or need and leave the rest.
Best wishes!
Glad I could help. It's hard not to compare yourself, I do it at times, but I have also leaned how frustrated and discouraged I get...that's not good for me because then I start sabotaging myself.
You've got this! Just follow your plan and let your body do it's thing. ;)
Thanks so much, Karen.
As I get further along you might have to remind me of my own words. =)
I am just trying to remember this is so different than all of the diets I have tried and failed in the past. This is my new way of life and as long as I do what I am supposed to, I have faith my body will do what it is supposed to do. I guess that's why I don't really have a goal weight- maybe I should but its been over 20 years since I was an acceptable weight so I have no idea what goal will be. I have faith that my body will let me know. Naive, maybe, but I'll just keep feeding and moving my body the way I'm supposed to...the rest will fall into place. ;)
Remember too, it is better to lose at a steady rate than 20 one week, gain 5, lose 10. Your body has alot to adjust to. Seeing other peoples posts, yes makes you wonder what are you doing wrong. I have soooo been feeling that. At my last appt, doctor said I am a month ahead of schedule or where he thinks I should be. Listen and follow the doctors plan. Don't freak out when you have a stall. Had mine right on schedule (per other posts) at 3 weeks. It will happen. Chin up and good luck!
