totally off topic but looking for suggestions
I'm a former massage therapist. I used to work both at a salon/day spa and for a company that did hotel calls. This was in Chicago about 10 years ago. You're right to not want to lug tables around. It's a pain in the butt (or back!). :-) I'd also point out that when you're going to a person's house or hotel room, you can't control your environment. So the lighting may be harsh, or it could be noisy, there can be distractions or you may not have enough room to move comfortably around the table. I made much more money doing house calls and met some famous people doing it (I once worked on Ozzy Osbourne!). But I never really liked it.
Please remember too you want to consider your safety. While by and large my hotel clients were great, I had a couple proposition me or make me feel uncomfortable. When it comes to hotel calls, about 90% of my clients were men. Working for a firm and being booked by a concierge who knew who I was and what room I was in gave me a sense of safety. If you decide to go into business for yourself and go to a person's home or hotel room on your own, there is a potential risk. Please make sure you practice wisely.
Ten years ago, we charged $90/hr. The price went up to $120/hr for a 10:00pm slot and $150/hr for the 11:00pm slot. My shift was typically 6:00 or 7:00pm to midnight. You make no money working during the day.
At the salon, we charged $75/hr, $90/90 minutes. Obviously, that was largely day or early evening work.
These days, I don't work as a therapist myself, but I'm still a massage junkie. :-) I get them regularly here (in the Middle East), but the pricing structure wouldn't help you. The place I go when I'm home, visiting family, isn't anything fancy. It's a two room practice, operated out of a health club in the burbs near O'Hare. But the therapists are superb. They distinguish between Swedish massage and deep tissue. The former is $75/hr and $110/90 minutes. The latter is $85/hr and $125/90 minutes. What you're going to be able to charge will depend on what your competitors are charging. I'd google massage and your location and see what websites come up.
Best of luck to you!
