New left side pain 4 weeks out

So I have a new left side pain, 4 weeks post surgery.  On Monday, I went to the bathroom and was fairly constipated ( sorry for the TMI) and this pain started. I figured I just strained to much and figured the pain would go away. Well, last night as I got up off the couch, I doubled over in pain and almost could not stand up. So I took some extra stregnth Tylenol and went to bed. This morning the pain is still there, even when I am just sitting, a little worse when standing and I have to stand up from sitting very slowly.  I called my surgeons office and talked to the nurse and she said out a heating pad on the area and she will talk to the doc when she gets in and call me back to let me know if I need to do anything different, etc.

Has anyone had anything similar?

I'm not quite 4 weeks yet, but I am having new discomfort on my left side too. It seems to start at the main incision and go around to my back. I was hoping it would have gone away by now but any bending or twisting makes it worse. Does you pain feel muscular? Did the heating pad help? I hope you get some relief soon!

I don't think the pain feels muscular although movement make it hurt worse but it just hurts when I am standing  or sitting as well. The heating pad is belong just a bit but I  still very uncomfortable.

I hope your pain goes away ASAP

sorry to hear you both are in pain. I remember after having lap band surgery I had left side pain over the main incision site. I took Tylenol and went to bed. Woke up in pain called the Dr. and ended up in the ER. I had a abscess that had to be drained. Not saying this is what you have... Just saying

Thank you for you reply. Hopefully its not that. Really hoping its just normal pain from being constipated and straining too much.

I am a month post op and I had the same problem 2-3 weeks post op.. It hurted so much I couldn't walk and had to have my husband drag me while I was crying from the shower to the bed just so I could lay flat and push my left side were the pain was. My doc said I just over worked a muscle inside. After taking it easy for a a few days. No more pain. I could feel the pain coming and would stop whatever I was doing to lay and rest . You might just have to take it easy for a few. Hope it helps..

I am also 4 weeks out from having Gastric Bypass and I too had the left side pain too, not at first. I had a descent bowel movement a few hours before I had the pain.  It went on for a while and when I had my follow up the Dr.  just said that when he sutured the muscle up they may have grabbed a nerve ending.  For the most part now it seems to be gone.  Every once in awhile I have a twinge.  Good luck with the pain and your journey.
