Panic

I am on my first business trip since my surgery. Holed up in meetings and a hotel for the next week. Did great all day, but when I got back to my hotel, instead of getting on the treadmill, I binged on beef jerky. I swear I ate 5-6oz of it. Now I am miserable, my tummy hurts and I feel super bloated. Did I damage my pouch? Before RNY when I got stressed over business I would binge. Now I'm out of my controlled home environment and find myself feeling out of control and even tho it is jerky, I still ate too much. I feel like I haven't learned anything about controlling my eating binges post surgery. Just needed to vent cuz I'm working myself into a panic about eating too much. Thx for listening.

Newbie, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

FIrst off, if this is your only binge, I really can't imagine 6 oz of jerky damaging your pouch, but you might feel sick a very long time. I had 1/2 oz of jerky and thought I was going to cry myself to sleep a few months ago!  If you did not bring Miralax or something else with you, you might want to get a softener and be sure to take it with a lot of water once you do feel more normal again.

I travel a lot for work and know it can be stressful to be in a new place and have the 'luxury' of just going to the hotel and relaxing instead of working out or eating right. The good news is, you at least ate something protein rich and not a carb load. You realize what you did was not in your best interest and I am thinking you'll give pause before doing it again and as long as you are in the US it is not too late to hit the gym in the hotel and go workout tonight. If you are traveling internationally, you might just need to go to bed and start over tomorrow on the right path. You took a small detour, don't let it ruin your day/trip/week/life. :)

Are you seeing a therapist and can you talk with them on a break tomorrow or email them and let them know what is going on? Do you have any helpful tools from them you can employ tomorrow? Is there a friend or support person you can call and tell that you really need to talk if the same feelings come over you again on this trip? I know for me, having my husband call 10 minutes before I was set to go and either run or do the elliptical was very helpful for me because if I was laying in bed and thinking about not going down to workout, he'd be calling and asking if I was ready, hydrated and such. I was not going to fib to him and so I got up and got ready and when he called I was set to walk out the door and hit the gym.

Perhaps there is a long time loser (affectionately) on the site tonight who can give you more BTDT advice, but those are my ideas and I hope they help!  You got off on the toll road and now you are paying the price with a pouch ache, but you'll be back on the road to success tomorrow, I just know it! :)

I took some Miralax and talked with hubby. You're right. It's not the end of the world. Have alarm set to hit the gym before going to office tomorrow. Thx for your advice.

You didn't damage your pouch by eating five or six ounces of something.

Right now it's getting late and your tummy hurts and your stressed and probably tired.  If you feel like you can sleep, you should go to bed.  If you can't sleep because your tummy hurts or you're too stressed out, then do whatever will help you relax.  Maybe a warm shower?  Or walking around a little?  Maybe some hot tea?

Tomorrow, when you feel better, make a plan for how you'll handle this situation in the future.  Because unless you suddenly become independently wealthy, I'm sure you will have work stress again.  So you'll need a plan for how to do it differently next time.  And you can use this not-so-good experience to help you make a better plan.

Relaxing in bed and hitting the gym early before work. Talked to hubby who can always calm me down. Thx for your advice.

I think you are being a bit hard on yourself, which is not a bad thing. But it was not like you ate a whole cake until you threw up. Cut yourself some slack. First off, you noticed what you did, you took responsibility for it. Now you have plans to change it. I think that is a win in my book. it is seeing what you do and jumping back on the wagon ASAP. I for one am proud of you for sharing this, for owning up to it and doing something about it.. WAY TO GO! This is not a sprint this is a marathon, a LONG one. We are going to trip along the way, it is not how many times you trip or fall, it is how many times you pick your ass up and get right back at it of course this is my own two cents.

I can't add anything, but I am really impressed with the replies you've gotten.  Sounds like sage advice to me.  Tomorrow is a new day!
