Day 3 post op-was I hit by a truck?!
Had my RNY on 12/10/13. I feel like your post was from my brain. But I'm now a week and it's def a bit better. I keep reading that it goes away a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks til the pains gone for the most part. It's frustrating at times and with the holidays I question the timing...but there will always be something I feel like I'm missing out on...so the time is now.

Prop yourself up in bed with a pile of pillows. Do not try to sit up in bed. When you need to get up, roll on your side toward the edge of the bed and swing your legs over the edge. Use your arms to get your body upright and then stand.
If your pain continues, ask your doctor for meds. Pain slows healing so you want to get rid of it. Take good care of yourself!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I KNOW that you will be feeling better and stronger very soon. Yay for you! I agree that the best thing you can do is get out of bed as much as you can. The change will be nice for you and then when you do go down for a nap or bed, it will be a treat.
All hospitals do things their own way, I guess. The stirrups sounded odd to me, but what do I know? When I had my lap band, they put compression boots on me, no stirrups. I actually liked the boots. My son had RNY at the same hospital (same surgeon) and he also had the compression booties and no stirrups. He wasn't very fond of the booties.
You came home so soon. That is AWESOME!!! The sooner we can get people out of the hospital, the less chance of them catching some scary germ. I know that I will have a longer surgery and after they dig my port out, it may be sore, but I'd love to be able to post that i went home in 24 hours, just like you. Fingers crossed. Feel better and take care!
I understand completely about lying down and not wanting to get up...
My surgery was Nov 20th and I remember for the first week and a half to two weeks, when I sat up or even rolled over, it felt like my guts were rearranging themselves... not only did I have the pain from the incisions, but this was really uncomfortable and kinda scary. Despite that, you do need to walk. I hope you didn't do the two blocks by your self for the first walking bout! Walk to the mail box first, then try going down the street a few mailboxes. Then 1 block next time. You don't want to get away from home and be weak. Your body is still healing, but walking is great to help you feel better. You need to walk several times a day even if it is just around the house. My first week, I had several rainy days and so I walked from room to room to room for about 15-20 minutes at a time.
Have hope - you will get feeling better!
I am post op 16 days and it does get better. I was sore across my shoulders and neck for a couple of days more than my abdomen. I think it was because of how they have to strap you down. It will pass and dont be afraid to take the meds every four hours the first several days. Dont wait for the pain to come back before taking the next dose.
My incisions and stomach didnt bother me until I pushed and was up too long one day. Listen to your body and you will be great.
Congrats on your surgery!
