Major reaction-advice needed
Hi,
I had a major reaction last night to something. Its been three weeks since my RNY. I had a snack of peanut butter for the second evening in a row, about 2 tsp. worth. Four hours later, during the night I became so chilled I thought I would have a heart attack. I had the heat on 80; everyone in the house was burning up. I had every blanket on me and the muscles in my arms and legs were contracting and relaxing. I was vocally shivering and my chest was violently shaking. I was in so much discomfort. This lasted over an hour and then I threw up. My temperature returned to normal and I slept a bit. Today my muscles are so sore that I can barely move without my legs shaking and I have a headache but I feel better. Can I have a dumping syndrome that makes me chilled instead of sweat? I should mention that I have hypothyroidism that I am medicated for. Could peanut butter be the culprit even if it didn't bother me the first time?
I don't think it was dumping syndrome that long after you ate. Plus was there a lot of sugar in that peanut butter?
I don't know what it was but I think it probably is not related to the peanut butter you ate. I'd give your PCP a call in the morning.

Sorry you felt so bad. It sounds like you may have an infection or virus. Your only 3 weeks out so chilling and fever are a concern. Hopefully its just a virus, but I would monitor your temperature and call your md in am. You could have a urinary tract infection, bronchitis, wound infection? Hopefully nothing but something to keep a watch on.
Good luck!
The muscles contracting and relaxing almost sounds like some sort of seizure. If it happens again before you get in to see your doctor, you might want to go to the ER.

I think after surgery we think that everything we experience is because of the surgery. I was bit by a black widow spider a couple of years ago. I never felt the bite, I felt a tickle and then I brushed at it and felt something there ball up. I got out of bed and looked and there it was balled up on my sheet. I told my husband and we put it in a ziplock bag. I didnt think I had been bitten. Then I felt a small burning sensation and had a small rash on the small of my back where I had felt the tickle. We looked on the internet and it said to get medical attention. I went to hospital ER and they gave me shot of something and had me wait for like an hour. Then we came home. I thought okay, no biggie. Well about half hour later when I got into bed I went thru exactly what you described. It was horrible. Look over your body and have your husband check you too. It lasted a couple of hours for me. Then the next couple of days I was so sore.
Just thought this might help. I also have hypothyroidism and take medication also.
