Hello, I am fairly new here and I am currently banded. Tomorrow I go and see a dr that does revisions from band to sleeve. The band has been just a pain in the butt. Either I am to tight, to lose three of the four weeks a month I cant eat anything. I HATE it.  I have taken fluid out, put it back in, taken it out, I cant get the correct fill. Needless to say AFTER FOUR YEARS I am having it removed in feb.

My question is, I want to do the surgery from bank to sleeve all at once, but I dont think that my doctor will do it. What should I say to the doctor that I am going to see tomorrow, to let him know that I want it all in one surgery and not have to wait.

Also, anyone that has experienced the same as I have, and has been switched band-sleeve, can you tell me if you are happy with the change and is it better then the band? All i want is to be able to eat healthy and have some way to feel full!!

Please help, I am depressed :*(

Might be better to post this on the revision board or the sleeve board.

A lot may depend on whether there is damage from the sleeve that requires healing in between surgeries.  You can discuss this with the surgeon and decide on the best course of action for you.

Definitely post this to the revision board.

You should say "I want to do it all in one surgery."  However, sometimes doctors don't like to do that because they think the stomach needs time to heal after removing the band.  So if it is safer or otherwise better medically to do it in two separate surgeries, then the surgeon will probably refuse to do it all in one.  But you want it done safely anyway, right?  So you can tell him you'd prefer one surgery if possible.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I am a recent revision patient. My doc told me, "I'll do the best I can to make it only one surgery, but I won't know until I get in there and see how the scarring etc., looks. I'll decide on the operating table". And since I want whatever is best for me, I rolled with his opinion. And luckily, he did it one. Everyone's different.

I had a band for about 7 years (horrible experience). I had the band completely deflated for 6 months before I had my surgery. My surgeon also said it would depend on how things looked when she got in there. I think with waiting the 6 months without fluid helped. I was able to get both band removed at the same time. I had a RNY. I had so much reflux that she told me I wasn't a candidate for sleeve. I'm glad I had the RNY (Im 4 weeks out), my reflux and difficulty swallowing is completely gone. Thank god!

Good luck, hope it works out for you!

I had my band 5 years, terrible terrible experience, 3 weeks and 1 day out from having my revision to RNY and I'm so happy I made the switch! They also did my surgery same time, but I was also told the same thing, won't know for sure till he got in there my band had slipped down my stomach. I too had bad reflux. Seems to all be gone!

I had the band for 4 years, suffering same things you did, and gaining half my lost weight back. I called my surgeon and said I wanted band to sleeve revision, however, he knew that I was also suffering from severe acid reflux, and he recommended the band to RNY revision. He said he would plan on doing the surgery as one, however, depending on the amount of scar tissue, he might not be successful. Well, he was, and I had the band removed, RNY and my gallbladder removed in one laparoscopic surgery.
I recommend being very candid with your surgeon, and once he/she has all of your information and requests, can make the most informed decision for your needs. Good luck to you.
