Today is day one of the 5 day pouch diet.  I am looking forward to getting on track.  I have a lot more weight that I need to lose. I have taken alot of things for granted but now I am serious about getting healthy.

It always confuses  me when someone says they are doing the five day pouch test to get back on track.  I don't really understand how a five day fad diet like this helps you get back on track.  To me, it would make more sense to go back to following your plan.  I mean, that's the track you want to get back on, right?  The track that is the plan your doctor and/or dietician laid out for you.  Not the track of fad diets we stick to for a few days and then go back to bad eating habits.

I wish you well and I hope it works for you the way you want it to.  I just don't get it, though.

i agree that fad diets are useless (and possibly dangerous), but i think the merit of the "pouch test" is not so much about dieting or weight loss, but putting a person back in touch with their pouch, ie: remembering what hungry and full feel like, and resetting eating habits.

Wouldn't going back to your plan, eating dense protein first, and that sort of thing have the same effect?

I am new to this - what is a 5 day pouch diet?  Is it like a "break the carb craving cycle" or something?  Good luck to you!

Thanks for your reply.  Yes the 5 day pouch diet is a crash course to get you back on track.  the 1st days, you drink protein shakes and eat clear and creamy soups.  The 3rd day you can eat soft proteins like eggs.  The 4th and 5th day you begin to introduce solid proteins as tolerated.  Your main focus is re-learning the signals your body gives that you are full.  I hope this helps.

It's a five day fad diet for RNY folks.  You stick to a very limited list of foods for five days.  Some people think this somehow "resets" your pouch or something.

I didn't realize that.  I don't think of banders as having a pouch, but I guess they sort of do.
