How much is safe to drink at once?

So I am one week post op and doing well.  Down six pounds since surgery.  I have had no complications.  In fact I have found far too easy to eat after surgery and am now concerned that I am going to stretch my pouch.  I am being careful with how much food I am eating at one time.  However I find I can drink several ounces of water and I want to be sure I am not hurting myself by doing so.

You can actually die from drinking too much water.  Not just RNY folks, but anyone.  There was a woman several years ago that drank four gallons of water in less than an hour for some contest and she died.  So I would suggest not drinking that much.  Stick to no more than a gallon an hour, and you should be fine.

Sarcasm kelly? I'm a little taken aback. I like it.

I try to limit the sarcasm here because in writing, without seeing someone's face or hearing their tone of voice, sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic or rude or just really stupid.  And people that know me well are used to my sarcasm but not everyone here knows me that well, so I try to be nice.  But sometimes a little of it just leaks out.

I'm amazed more doesn't leak out. You show remarkable restraint.

Hi!  I am scheduled for my RNY on 2/4/14 and my "book" that they gave me to review and help me through the process says to keep water by you at all times and "sip" all day long.  Your pouch is only 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup... keep a measuring cup that size next to you and visually think of how much you are swallowing at one time.  Wait 15 minutes or so and drink that much again... since the book says that 15 minutes is how long it takes to process the water on an empty stomach.  I hope this helps - but do not drink more than the 1/4 cup at one time without taking a few minutes for it to go out of the pouch and into the intestines or you probably will stretch it!

you will definitely not stretch the pouch if you drink more than 1/4 cup in 15 minutes.  I doubt it takes that long for plain water to leave an empty pouch, too.

you can NOT stretch the pouch drinking water. Secondly I've been drinking "normal" since about a week or so out. I could drink a 8 oz shake in 15 minutes and could easily drink a bottle of water in under an hour if I was trying.

LOL, Kelly!

My surgeon told me right after my surgery that I could drink as much was comfortable for me as the water just keeps flowing. It doesn't sit there like dense food or anything. Keep sipping!
