FEROCON

Not sure how many of you are now on the prescription drug Ferocon, or similar. My understanding is that Ferocon is an iron supplement. My pharmacist can not get Ferocon, but his research told him that the only active ingredient in Ferocon is Folic Acid, so he has given me an over-the-counter Folic Acid supplement instead. Anyone out there have any knowledge of Ferocon? Is anyone else on a prescription iron supplement by another name?

I looked in my nursing drug guide and on the internet.. sorry nothing on the item "Ferocon". I took a prescription when I was pregnant cause I couldn't take prenatal vitamins, but not now. Hope you are able to get more info, but my prescription for iron was a folic acid and iron supplement. Kerry

Ferocon Oral Capsule 110-0.5 mg GENERIC NAME IRON/VITAMIN C/VITAMIN B12/INTRINSIC FACTOR - ORAL COMMON BRAND NAME(S) Contrin, Fergon Plus, Foltrin, Trinsicon Ferocon appears to be just a multi-vitamin with iron. I have heard of many WLS patients being prescribed the one under the name Trinsicon. Kathy

GRRRRRREAT! Many thanks all! I'll see if I can source any of the other brand names. I know that iron absorption post WLS is apparently an issue, so I think it's important to get the right supplement. Thanks again

My doctor has me taking Ferocon every day as an iron supplement. I'm premenstrual and it is necessary that I take it. The doc told me that if I didn't take it like I was suppose to that I would end up having to have iron infusions and that those are very uncomfortable. I have yet to miss a dose and don't plan on it. Hope this helps. Belinda

It's more than just a folic acid supplement. It contains: iron, vitamin C, B12 and intrinsic factor. It is specially formulated to be VERY bioavailable and absorbable. If our pharmacist can't get it, why not talk to your doc about a different scrip or an OTC equivelant. Just my 2 cents.

I believe you can buy it over the counter. I did and it is called Feoeol Caplets. It is made by GlaxoSmithKline. I hope this does not break the rules concerning product endorsement. I thought you might find the name useful. No prescription required.
