At my wits end with this constipation crud!
(hugs) I have depression, hypothyroidism, rhuemtoid arhritis, fibromyalgia, and reactive hypoglycemia. AND i eat cheese as one of my snacks during the day. LOL
I take 3 colace twice a day. Once in the morning when I wake up and once at night when I go to bed. I drink a cup of hot tea or coffee each morning. And that seems to clean me out. If I do not have that cup of coffee or tea I dont go. I think it may work with the colace, maybe the hot liquid stimulates the colon into working, I don't know. But it works for me. Hopefully that will help you. I also take miralax once a week. Usually wed evening. And if I am having problems from either diet or maybe not enough fluids I drink a big capful of that milk of magnesia. YUCK, but I can tolerate the cherry flavor. I had my glallbladder out, I thought that would help. Nope.
Someone else said that a small bowl of popcorn would clean her out when she needed it. ITs a whole grain, I guess it has fiber. That does not work for me as well as the cup of coffee or tea does. I did try the laxative tea. And it worked, but if I can drink something I enjoy more flavor wise (like coffee or earl grey) I do.
Also during a really rough period before I had my gallbladder out, I read in a book that squating helps to get things moving. That we are not made to "sit" on a toilet to void ourselves. That we are designed to squat. So I put a stool in front of the toilet to put my feet on while I tried to go. It did work. I guess they actually sell squating platforms for toilets. LOL, no, not for me.
I hope something out of this helps or you find something that works soon! Nothing is worse than being constantly uncomfortable from constipation UGH
If I miss one dose of anything I'm back to miserable!
My routine is colace stool softener with each calcium dose.... 3x per day. And 2 heaping tablespoons of benefiber in my decade every morning. I usually go every day to every other day.... if I get to the end of day 2 with no results I'm doing Milk of Mag or a suppository, depending on how I feel.
My program works for me... took a little to tweek it but I'm care full to stick with it.
Once you find what works... stick with it!

Sorry to hear this-I hope you do find a solution that works for you!
I have a friend who has a daughter with a lot of constipation issues (I forget the medical term) since she was an infant. One thing that they do for her, because her body seems to get used to meds and they become less effective, is mix it up every 30-45 days. So she'll be on one med, then switch to another. You may want to find out if that would be helpful for you in a chat with your doctor.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
