What about the icecream and Fiberone bars you were having issues with recently?  Could that be contributing?

Could be but i slowed down a lot at least on the ice cream.. the fiber one bars still eating more than i probably should. I logged everything from today and i am around 2800 mg sodium.

I woud think so. The OP needs to be honest with herself if she really wants to lose. It really does not affect us either way.

More fluids will prevent you from retaining fluid. Most plans recommend at least 64 ounces. I would also exercise. If you are not over eating you are probably under moving. Your metabolic caloric needs could be lower than average? You may be done malabsorping calories. It ends early for some. Let us know what the doc says. Lots of variables.

Fluid retention is helped by more fluids.  You need to drink LOTS of water.  Just do it - think of it as medicine if you have to.  Water is not optional   64 should be a minimum.

Fiber one bars, cereal, oatmeal, bananas, croutons and PB crackers need to go until you are in maintenance, then try a few of these again.  IMO be less afraid of fat and FEAR the simple carbs.

I don't think protein shakes and protein bars are the answer for you or anyone else. You need to eat real food! Is a protein shake from time to time and when necessary to meet protein guidelines bad, no. However, it is processed and there is trade off. Why aren't you eating lean, dense proteins?! Do you cook at all? There are great recipes everywhere. Up your water eat real food.

I am 11 months post-op as of 2/5. Anyway since surgery in March i have a trend. One week i may lose anywhere from .5 lbs to 5 lbs a week. Some weeks i lose nothing which i know is normal. I recently just got rid of an ulcer i had but still have some gastritis. Anyway, after i lose this weight the next day or a few days later i gain about 2-3 lbs. Over the next 2 weeks i slowly keep gaining from day to day, then 1 day i might lose 2 lbs and the next day i will either keep losing until i get down to my lowest weight or i will gain a little bit more. Well over the last 2 weeks again i am slowly gaining... my lowest weight was 210 and yesterday evening i was around 214 so my weight had gone down from the night before when it was 217. This morning i was at 214 and now i am 219. I gained 9lbs in water weight i mean really? I will be discussing this with my surgeon because it's an ongoing issue. Maybe i need diuretics or something?? I am so frustrated with it already i lose weight only to gain weight and it takes a few weeks to lose the weight i gained! I am down only 87 lbs since surgery 11 months ago. I am at 210 and am so close to one-der-land and feel like i will never get there nevermind goal. I am really not eating much salt if anything my blood pressure is on the low side.. average day is 106/68.. so i highly doubt salt is the issue.

As far as meds, i am on thyroid meds, biotin, i take daily milk of mag 4 tbsp so i have been having a bowel movement daily, i also take percocet, ambien, wellbutrin, colace, gas X, antacid, Zofran, dry vitamin D, Calcium chews 2 a day, and my multi vitamins., i can't figure out what is causing so much water retention and was hoping someone could help me figure this out. On a daily basis i try to drink at least 48oz of fluid usually more. I just got over a bowel obstruction but i've been going daily now but it's all water but has fecal color and the milk of mag has been taking care of that so i don't think this is constipation either. I feel like throwing in the towel why can't i lose weight like every other normal RNY patient why must i continously gain every week? Is there some sort of detox diet i can go back to? Im about to just live on protein bars and shakes and go from there because obviously i cannot eat anything without gaining 9lbs in fluids. Has anyone experienced this? Can anyone help me? I am doing everything i am supposed to i am not overeating, or eating high sodium foods,. i mean every few days i might have a salad with salad dressing.. and a few times this week i had a frozen weigh****chers meal.. otherwise i have cottage cheese, chick peas, quest protein bars, pure protein canned protein drinks, oatmeal, cereal like cheerios, i will have fiber one bars, cheese sticks, laughing cow cheese wedges, also had some lunch meat this past week a lunchmeat rollup with no bread. Other things i eat are:
-milk-carrots
-chicken sausage
-cereal
-ketchup
-steamfresh veggies with spray butter and shredded cheese
-mustard
-chicken thighs skinless
-protein bars
-protein shakes
-cheese sticks
-oatmeal
-bananas
-fat free croutons
-light mayo
-dannon light and fit greek with fruit
-peanut butter crackers (sometimes not often)

Anything here that can cause a 9lb gain i meant honestly>> i eat a lot of the same stuff daily. Could this be something more serious with me retaining fluids all of the time? I've had several EKGS and bloodwork the last few months and they are all normal. The only thing abnormal about my 3 months ago, was my TSH my thyroid i was supposed to have it rechecked 6 weeks after they raised my dose and i haven't yet. I will be going to my gyn tomorrow and i will ask him to order it for me and i will have it rechecked last time it was checked my level was too high. I haven't heard an abnormal thyroid causing so much water retention though??

-milk-carrots
-chicken sausage
-cereal - DITCH THE CEREAL
-ketchup
-steamfresh veggies with spray butter and shredded cheese
-mustard
-chicken thighs skinless
-protein bars - HOW MANY OF THESE ARE YOU EATING?   My experience is I DO see my weight go up with protein bars, it could be part of your problem.  YMMV
-protein shakes
-cheese sticks
-oatmeal - Limit oatmeal yes it's a complex carb just do not recommend it daily or very often.
-bananas - Fruit but not your best fruit choice....how often are you eating bananas?
-fat free croutons - Carbs, why?  Fat free means more carbs.
-light mayo
-dannon light and fit greek with fruit
-peanut butter crackers (sometimes not often) - Limit these too.....I keep them occassaionaly in case I do something crazy like eat too many carbs and not enough protein and fat.  Peanut Butter crackers will reguate my sugar but as a snack just to say I had something this is not the best option.

Are you drinking enough water or other non-caloric beverages?  Logging your intake?  Thyroid problems will cause losing weight more difficult.  You need to have your TSH rechecked and get your levels in range.  Oh and 7.9 lbs of loss average for 11 months is nothing to sneeze about and you lost a significant amount of weight before surgery.

milk (discouraged unless in small amounts)

-carrots (discouraged on my plan)
-chicken sausage (what is the fat ratio?)
-cereal (why?)
-ketchup (sugar free and why?)
-steamfresh veggies with spray butter and shredded cheese
-mustard
-chicken thighs skinless
-protein bars (are you eating low fat/low carb and how many?)
-protein shakes
-cheese sticks
-oatmeal (heavily discouraged on my plan)
-bananas (heavily discouraged on my plan)
-fat free croutons (empty calories)
-light mayo
-dannon light and fit greek with fruit (would not be my first choice)
-peanut butter crackers (sometimes not often) (not allowed on my plan)

The thing is....I can tell you all day long what MY plan is, but are you on YOUR plan?

Are you measuring 100% of the time and sticking to your plan and what it allows? I see a lot of snacky foods and a lot of non-protein forward foods. Those just are not allowed in my plan and things like oatmeal and bananas are heavily discouraged until you've been at goal for a while on my plan and even then, sparingly.

You seem overly concerned with sodium vs being concerned about protein intake? If you up your water intake you wont have to worry about sodium. When you logged your foods on myfitnesspal did you meet your protein goal given to you? What is your protein goal?

Why are you weighing multiple times per day? Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day...it's normal. Pick a time of day (first thing in the morning maybe) and just weigh once a day or even once a week. You seem a little too scale obsessed and don't understand that it's normal to fluctuate.

I think you need to get real with yourself and log ALL your food and water intake for a solid week. If you keep the "diet mentality" of going back on shakes, etc., you will NOT have learned what you are supposed to be learning right now in the honeymoon stage which is eating for life. Then you will end up back here in a year asking why you've gained all your weight back.
