Does anyone know whether flaxseed can be used post RNY, and whether it does help with constipation?

No reason you can't have it; I eat it for the omega-3s.

I have no information on whether it helps alleviate constipation.

I don't know of any reason it couldn't be used.  I take flaxseed oil capsules in the winter to help with dry skin.  I don't know if it would help with constipation or not, though.

I used roasted flaxseeds in my yogurt for crunch... yummy.  But it doesn't help with constipation - the ONLY thing that works for me, period, and I've tried every single remedy suggested on this site, is Milk of Magnesia (I assume you could take pills too but I prefer not to swallow pills whenever possible).  I take 4 tablespoons per night and heaven forbid I miss a night - ugh.

I use ground flaxseed (1 to 2 tblsp) in my morning protein yogurt.  This along with 2 tsp of Benefiber keeps me regular.  Chia seeds work well too, but I prefer the ground flax seed.  Whole flaxseed just seems to go right through me, but not in the way I want!

Something I have been told by many people (though admittedly, I do not know if it is truth or urban legend) is that whole flaxseed will just go right through you and none of the benefits will be realized. But if you crush or 'break' them, then many of the benefits are realized. My flaxseed friends all have either a mortar and pestle or coffee bean grinder just for their flaxseeds.

HTH!

I use it all the time making the "Muffin in a minute" recipes. (Google it, they are pretty neat) Also as a sprinkle on yogurt. I believe it is the flaxseed oil that can help with constipation. I have read that if you just poke a hole in a gelcap and down the oil it can help.

Personally, I stick to a dose of Miralax (or generic equivalent) daily. I tried every other day in the beginning. No. Every day. In about 3 days it starts working. Don't stop taking it although it is tempting.
