For me, having surgery was an easier way of losing weight and keeping it off than dieting. I'm guessing that's true for most people here, because if it was easier for you to lose weight by dieting, then why would you have had surgery?
I don't think there is anything wrong with choosing the easiest way to do things, though. I do that in most of my life. I just finished eating some cheese, which I bought from the store. I did not milk a cow and then use that milk to make cheese. Buying it at the store is easier. I don't know many people that prefer to do things the hard way.
