What's on the menu today, RNY-ers?
Topher, it was totally the smoking! I quit last year September 1st, for my December 16th surgery. We killed our taste buds! How did we get fat without taste buds? LOL!
I am down to share recipes too - and spice is a MUST. I agree, I usually have to heavily season my portion and not everyone's :)
Thanks for the compliments by the way - I do feel positive about 99% of the time. Even at my heaviest, I never let life get me down. I would MUCH rather walking around happy than mad/sad. I know the people I like to be around, and they are not the people who are kvetching about everything under the sun. So I pledge to not be one of those people :) And this journey that all of us on OH are on is hard. It's a *****! I mean, I still wake up and think about food and what to eat, the difference is now I make good choices and measure it and can eat less (as opposed to eating a pizza lol). So we have more to gain as a group by cheering each other on. I feel cheered on everyday by y'all!
I am rooting for you too - you are so sweet, and doing so well, and so funny and really motivate me. You are such an inspiration!!!
P.S. Though I am green with envy about your restriction ;)
P.S.S. Much love back to you!
Hey DcGirl!!!
It's been awhile since I've posted. I finally got labs back and seen my dietition. Well my labs all look great except for Vit D which is a 44 and B12 1,986... yes it's that HIGH!!!! So I've stopped taking my B12 so it can level off and I'm trippling on my Vit D 50,000 iu per week instead of once per week. My dietition wants me to up my calories around 1000-1200 and keep my carbs at 35-45 grams which is 20% and fats 39 grams which is 40%. She said that my protein consumption is excellent and she wants me to get fruit/whole grains into my diet. It's hard to do that because I get so full off of my proteins, no room left. So that's the update for now.
Time since surgery: Almost 14 months
B: Protein coffee, boiled egg, slice turkey bacon
S1: 1 oz beef jerky
L: 1/2 tray Atkins Chicken Broccoli Alfredo
S2: Work out snack... Quest Protein bar
E: 45 mins Elliptical, Concentrating on Abs and Arms with weights
D: Egg Drop Soup, Steamed Chinese Chicken & Broccoli w/ 1 teaspoon of low sodium soy sauce
W/Vites: On target
Totals.... Calories 1,023, Protein 103 grams, Carbs 31 grams, Fats 39 grams
Kenyatta! Hey girl! I was wondering where you have been! I was going to PM you and just check in :) CRAZY that your B is so high - at least you have a plan to course correct it! I haven't had any labs. I did a two week checkup and a two month check up...my doc said to come back next month, but I have no idea when they will do labs. Honestly, I can see the benefit of having veggies with your protein, and I am not a NUT, but I plan to steer clear of fruit, and even whole grains. Even brown rice will potentially tip me over the edge into Carbland! LOL. Do you make your own egg drop soup or get it at a Chinese restaurant?
Your protein never ceases to amaze me. 103 grams!!! Damn, my snack is gonna have to include protein powder.
I'm a dumper so I def can't mess with fruit... I've tried it yesterday and it made me sick to my stomach so no more fruit for me!!! I think that I'm doing fine without fruit and whole grains in my diet. I'm just a little worried that she wants me to increase my calories to 1200. I know that's low to many ppl on OH but for me that's a lot!
I get my egg drop soup from the restaurant. I just ordered me some Unjury Chicken Soup Protein so I'm going to make my own egg drop soup this weekend! Also, egg face egg bites, Ricotta Bake. I need variety in my life!

Thank you Dcgirl for starting this. I had my surgery 7 years ago and did great with my 110lb weight up until last year. The normal bad stuff happened went back to old habits. Now I'm trying to lose the 40lbs I gained (13 gone so far) and your board has given me some great ideas on what to eat. In fact this morning I made some eggbites because you guys gave them so many great reviews!
My eats:
while cooking: coffee with creamer
breakfast: 2 Spanish and artichoke bites and 2 turkey sasuge links, small amount of sour cream for dipping
lunch: 1/2 cup turkey chili without beans leftover from last night with some chees and sour cream
snack: chocolate milkshake protein shake with half milk
dinner: ravioli with sauce, 1/4c broccoli, 1c salad maybe a glass of red wine
if I need it a string cheese and some roast beast
without the extra snack I'm at 885 cal, 65 carbs and 73 protein.
Vitamins done and water poured (my goal is 88oz)
Yay, welcome!!! I am so glad you get good ideas from here. Congrats on losing 110 lbs!!! I know it must be so disappointing to have gained 40 lbs, but let's look at the positives here...you have already lost a THIRD of them and your menu is totally on track! Seven years out your stomach is no longer teeny tiny so sticking to 900ish calories and 73 g of protein is awesome. What do you think of the egg bites? I love the portion control :)
I seriously miss a glass of wine. I am actually meeting an ex-colleague for drinks after work and he is going to be very perplexed why I am not getting sauced with him lol. It's good for us newbies to see someone seven years out who has a glass of wine every now and again.
You're 1/3 of the way to losing those 40 lbs and we will be here to cheer you on until you reach goal again!!!
Breakfast: 2 slices turkey bacon, 1 banana
Snack: pickles!!!
Lunch: no clue, I have to go to the store and grab some deli meat and cheese, so much for cleaning out the fridge
Snack: Strawberry Peanut a Butter protein shake
Dinner: Spaghetti Squash and Turkey meatballs, ended up going to red lobster last night with our neighbors and had the kids portion of snow crab legs (YUMMM)
Dessert: Strawberries with some melted chocolate chips for dipping
Gonna walk this afternoon, legs are hurting from my 5 mile run yesterday so today I'm just recovering so I can do it again tomorrow!
