Vitamin D question
You can take a large dose weekly. How high was your D level?

I took 50,000 three times a week for 6 months and it went from 45 to 122. Surgeon said fine although it was flagged as high. I cut back to twice a week for the next 6 months and it actually went up to the present 188. So I have my annual appt. today. I think i will cut back to once a week and see what it does. Although i don't see him for another year I am going to ask for labs to be done again in about 3 months for the D.
That's what I'd do.

My D level was discovered to be low on my pre op labs. I had a RX2 for 50,000 IU daily for a few days, and then weekly for a couple months. I asked my surgeon pre op about taking it post op, he looked at it and told me I would be able to swallow it. It finished a couple weeks post op. I had my 3 month labs drawn a couple weeks ago in preparation for my 3 month visit. I haven't gotten results yet. My appointment was cancelled due to our ice storm. I commented about this recently and one of the vets I believe commented that we don't absorb the capsule Vit D. I am confused now. I am currently not on any supplemental D besides my MVI twice a day and the small amt in the calcium citrate. If I need to again supplement, what KIND is recommended.
It's not capsules we don't absorb. The prescription stuff is D2 and it's in oil. D2 has to be converted to D3 in the body, so taking D3 is better for everyone, RNY folks or not. Since RNY patients malabsorb fats, we don't absorb vitamins in oil very well. We'll absorb some of it but not all of it. Dry D3 is recommended for post ops. But again, D3 is recommended for everyone.
You will almost certainly need to supplement. Most post ops need at least 10,000 IU D3 a day, many need quite a bit more than that.
